They can also put forward the "Trump won't leave office" trope to spread more FUD.
If they do that before January 20th, 2021, they prove they are complete morons. As the president elect would not become the president until that time. To call someone illegitimate before then is pure ignorance.
National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci said this week there is “no reason” Americans can’t vote in person for the 2020 presidential election, so long as voters follow proper social distancing guidelines amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“I think if carefully done, according to the guidelines, there’s no reason that I can see why that not be the case,” Fauci told ABC News this week. “If you go and wear a mask, if you observe the physical distancing, and don’t have a crowded situation, there’s no reason why shouldn’t be able to do that.”
Fast forward to Election Day. The Media will be doing exit polls and trying to guess the outcome. If the results are not a slam-dunk for Trump, or if the electoral college results are at all in question, then we must WAIT for the mail-in ballots to be counted. This might take weeks. During this time, the Dems can call the Trump presidency "illegitimate" or "illegal." They can also put forward the "Trump won't leave office" trope to spread more FUD.
If the results are still unclear, there will be challenges, court battles, etc., perhaps all the way until Inauguration day or beyond. If there is still a question, who gets sworn in? It gets fuzzy. Pelosi is out of office on January 3, so Chuck Grassley would be next in line. BUT, a bunch of Senators are also out of office, so the Senate only has 65 members, with a Demo majority. Then can Elect a president. BUT governors could appoint interim senators of their own choosing, possibly swinging things back. It's a complete morass.
Let's just hope the election is a landslide, just like the last one.
