You see Goldie Hawn from Laugh IN went on to do serious and various roles, Dan Akroyd, even John Beliushi before he dies, was gearing up to do serious roles. James Belushi never did a comedy slap schtick role, word is all of those roles he played were roles his brother was slated to get a decade earlier.
His last movie Neighbors was a Dark comedy, with more drama than funny pranks.

Lots and lots of laws will have to be changed first for them to be able to do all that. As it stands now it's extremely hard to put someone into an institution against their will. It might change some time in the future, or it might not, but the mere act of declaring something silly like "mislabeling" a "mental illnes" does not strip anyone of any rights.
