This year needs to get off the hook.

Every day needs to go off the hook. I like the 4th of July angle, but we need to be going off the hook any chance we get. Traveling. Having a party. Going out. If enough people do it more frequently this shit goes away. Whether it's through herd immunity or the fact it's not anymore dangerous than the flu and people open their fucking eyes like they haven't for a year.

The question is has the government become destructive to our ability to live our lives? 20 years ago I heard it said that we no longer live in the land of the free, we are in the land of the regulated. It hasn't exactly improved since them. Add in the survalence state aided and abetted by big tech and the right to be left alone had all but vanished. At what point do we transition from minor inconvenience and "light transient causes" to "a long train of abuses". Sadly we gave away out liberty through laws like the patriot act and the mandates put in place sue to COVID. Reminds me of the old Franklin quote.. you have a republic.. I'd you can keep it."

All that said I still belive we can work with the system, but we need new leadership. We need ordinary people to run for office on the local state and national level. We need to pull both of the two major partied back towards the center and not let the loudest control the argument steering it to the extremes. We need to learn that compromise is not a dirty word, not all on the left are crazy communists, and not all on the right are angry old white men. We have far more in common than that which divides us. Turn off the TV, shut off the cell phone and actually talk to your neighbors. Find commonality even if you don't agree politically. Change starts at home.

My street must have set off 10k in fireworks including a 50yard roll of fire crackers thousands of mortars.. Litteraly fireworks from 7pm to 12am. Never seen anything like it the whole city was crazy.

We were in Colorado for 9 nights......it was awesome. Almost nobody was wearing masks. Restaurants and the hilton hotel were packed.
Now we are a week in Lake Tahoe, it feels normal again....like it used to be 2 years ago. The only thing that changed is the price of vacation homes.....holy fuck. A home that cost 800k 2 years ago is now 1.5M.

My neighborhood on the 4th. Over 100 people at our neighborhood show. We pooled together a few grand and put the city shoe to shame.

We took it seriously for a month. Once you realize you're being lied to early on "15 days to stop the spread" you wise up.

It's the reason I'll NEVER live in a city or liberal area of any state. Or trust the Federal government to do what's best for the average citizen. Besides airports, I've lived a pretty normal life over the last year and a few months this BS has been going on. Everyone I know that got covid said it was a nothing burger besides one guy. Don't personally know of a single death. Which is statistically impossible given mine and my wife's network of friends.

Doesn't sound like it from a lot of people here. Every place is different though. And your government lets 100's of thousands of people live, shit and piss in the streets across the state, so I guess fireworks might be an afterthought.

Sorry, not trying to bash CA. I like it and like visiting. Given the fires I figured they'd be more strict with enforcement. CA was also the last hold out on masking and actually enforcing it. I guess that was more my point.

I live in SoCal. Restaurants are open for sit down and stores let you in without a mask. Stores and roads are packed....its getting back to normal. The-mask-is-here-to-stay is bullshit. Even the most liberal fucks in my family dont like wearing masks :)

Like I was telling some friends over beer the other day, the best you can do is live a happy life.

It's a choice.

Take care of your family, and let them take care of you. Take care of yourself. Don't neglect good diet and exercise. Family is the most important thing in our life and should not be neglected. "Nobody ever wishes they had worked more at the end of their life."

Do work that lets you thrive AND makes the world a better place. Reject actions that hurt others. Saying no to the wrong things will make you available for the right things.

Have fun. Have a hobby. Get away from work and family to do something that gives you joy. Don't wait for tomorrow because tomorrow will never come. It is always today when action must be taken. Make regular time for re-creation.

If you have a balanced life: family, work, and fun; you will be stable anywhere, like a three legged chair.

If you let your life get out of balance, like when you work for the weekend and neglect your family, it's like riding a bicycle. You can get somewhere, but if you stop you will fall down.

If you let your life get so out of balance that you neglect everything else, like the workaholic that never takes a vacation and neglects his family with the goal of being rich, or the party girl that only wants to have fun, it's like riding a pogo stick; you will never really get anywhere and you will fall down.

Strive to live a balanced life. Take care of the people that take care of you. Do good work. Have fun.

Even when it seems as though the world is going to hell, (it always is, somewhere, for someone) you can still live a happy balanced life.

That's my independent rant and the philosophy I try to live by; a balanced life.
