And now the brass have learned. It turns out that America is biased in favor of blacks, so eliminating their photos hurts them by forcing evaluation to be based more on their accomplishments.

From Stars and Stripes today :

Navy could return to using photos for promotions, personnel chief says

These stories remind us that every major institution in the United States has engaged in “affirmative action,” which means discriminating in favor of blacks and, to a lesser extent, Hispanics, for the last 50 years. If any “systemic racism” has become embedded in our society, it is the racism of affirmative action. I would have thought that everyone knows this; certainly, anyone who has been active in the business or academic worlds in the last half-century is well aware of it.

Note the Navy wasn't happy that achievers were getting promoted, it was worried that the "right looking people" weren't being promoted.

This bodes ill in a future conflict.

We are back to the lumpenproles and Elites against the Middle, which is pretty standard fare.

FWIW I changed my "race" to Hispanic in the HR system at work 3-4 month ago. This year my salary increase and bonus are substantially better than they were historically for the same performance grade. Makes you wonder...
