Adrenochrome, if I'm to believe what I've read, is just oxidized adrenaline. We can make adrenaline, but it's marketed normally under "Epinephrine".

If some sort of wonder drug could be manufactured by torturing children (or even animals), it's not the most cost effective way of doing it by using children (or animals). There would be a huge economic reward for synthesizing it, like there was with insulin, which is produced by a genetically modified bacteria now - a strain of e-coli.

Adrenaline can be made entirely chemically. We don't even have to bother with f'ing around with genetically modifying bacteria. I consider the whole adrenochrome thing to be a canard. It's quite possible people are just goddamed evil sadists, but there's no reason to farm children - at least not for adrenochrome. You can literally buy that shit in bulk if you want and it's quite affordable. Lot cheaper than heroin or cocaine anyhow.

I know its chemical structure - it is a very simple compound that would be cheap and easy to make in lab, if one wished so. My knowledge ends there.

Right, so that's not what they're doing. Andrenochrome is used in satanic rituals as a drug/way to get high. The monsters who use it think the potency and high is best achieved by collecting it from terrified children. I won't go into more detail than that. Watch Doctor Sleep for a great mainstream example.
