Ukrainians sink Russian warship that attacked Snake Island – report

The Russian warship that bombed Snake Island in the Black Sea on the first day of the invasion of Ukraine has been destroyed, The Times of London reported on Tuesday.

The report, quoting Ukrainian military sources, said that the large patrol corvette Vasily Bykov was destroyed in a missile attack near the port city of Odesa early Monday.

On February 24, the Russian naval vessel had asked Ukrainian border guards on Snake Island — some 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the border with Romania — to surrender or “be hit with a bomb strike.”

“Russian warship, go fuck yourself,” a Ukrainian border guard replied.

Videos shared on social media showed the rocket exchange when the Russian ship was targeted. The video is believed to have been released by the Ukrainian Navy.

I'll give you anothet example of bravery in the face of overwhelming force which didn't end in a single death of the defenders: when Serbs advanced on Srebrenitsa they first tried to go through a checkpoint manned by Brits and basically told them to lay doen their arms and fuck off. The commander of British outfit literally answered "molon labe".The Serbs turned around and went through a different route guarded by Dutch soldiers who did lay down their arms and let them through (and we know how it ended).

So some of the Ukie guards were taken prisoner after they ran out of ammo. It's not about dying or not dying, it's
about balls vs no balls in the moment when you know you can't win but you still choose to fight and risk almost certain death.
