A lot of my friends and family in TX (I've been living in CA for the past 25 years) now carry guns. Several years ago when I noticed it (never said anything) I thought to myself, "Why the fuck do they need to have guns everywhere they go? It wasn't like that when I lived here". We bought a farm with old circa 1900 farmhouse on it. Instead of knocking it down and building a 100000 sq ft McMansion as is customary these days, we'll repair it snd try to preserve its historic authenticity.

Repairs will start in about 2 months. We have a local contractor who is familiar with style (his family house is similar; his grandfather was one of the local church builders). Not everything is practical and possible to preserve - house is covered with cypress wood which can also be seen in 1910 photo - but 100+ yr age shows and this type of covering can not be bought any more at price less than that of gold. Beams in house are white oak 4x4 which resist any attempts at nail driving. Some modifications were made as recently as 2010 with expected modern (lack of) quality but those will be removed. Nearly all of my Exxon share income will be sunk into this...

Of course we should have just built a 10000sq ft mansion and ventilated about recycling and electric cars /sarc off
