Many people have been brainwashed and conditioned, that the television is their only pastime. They are unable to disconnect and find other interests. I usually stop watching TV after a day or two when we are separated, but my wife is a media junkie and considers two hours a day in front of the tube together bonding time, so I have gone along with it forever. Outside of some of her soaps and chick flicks and situation comedies, we can usually find some common ground for watching, but she just has to watch some of that stuff herself.

If you ever get a chance to visit Battery Park on the southern tip of Manhattan, you should check out the U.S. Customs House.
