I had a neighbor who was celebrating his graduation from Yale law school.
He was drunk and fell hitting his head on a table.
He bled to death like William Holden.
I'm going to be alone when I'm a geezer; I will pay for someone to be around if necessary.
As of now I have company.
I am on a strict alcohol consumption program of two glasses per day. I exceeded that with a whiskey. I drank 1/2 glass of whiskey. I had the fall in the bathroom when the door was closed. My wife rescued me. I was unconscious for 1 minute. I still had to go to the ER for a CT scan. Fortunately, there was no serious damage. I am on 6 months of alcohol abstinence. There will be a review at that point to see if I can have one drink per week. Getting drunk can easily turn deadly. It is not cute "to get loaded."
One option is to wear a safety pendant that detects a fall

.
Maybe a breathalyzer before the door unlocks to allow ingress and one of those infant monitors will do the trick.
Yesterday afternoon I suffered a fall in the bathroom. I was knocked unconscious and had a bleeding head injury. Elena came back from doing her volunteer work. My body was blocking the closed bathroom door. She had to force open the door. She found me unconscious. Elena weighs 130 lbs. and I weigh 217 lbs. She revived me and got me to bed. She administered first aid. She drove me to the Kaiser emergency room in South San Francisco where I got excellent medical care. Had I been alone I might have ended up like William Holden.
