My recollection of Johnson was his speech on TV that we would wage a "war on poverty" in the USA.
Of course, he helped create more poverty as he and others grew the giant welfare state.

The Teamsters Jimmy Hoffa knew a crook when he saw one. He saw one staring back at him every day during his morning shave.

The knowledgeable Hoffa once called LBJ "the biggest crook in America." Richard Nixon told Pat Buchanan that LBJ was "an absolute animal." Nixon also told GOP operative Roger Stone that he "made no secret about the fact" that he "wanted to be President," but, "unlike LBJ," he didn't want it so bad that he "was willing to kill
someone" in order to become President (obviously referring to JFK).

Incidentally, the infamous "Ballot Box 13" was what put Johnson over the top in the 1941 race for U. S. Senate.

I'm sure he had no problem at cooperating with the CIA and/or FBI to murder Kennedy.

I thought you were going to say that LBJ pulled out his schlong. I read that he (more than once) had guys in his office pull out their johnsons to see how each measured up.

Along with everything else regarding LBJ, is the fact that he was an incredibly crude, vile and disgusting man.

Example: He enjoyed conducting business with government officials while he did his 'business' while sitting on the throne in the bathroom just outside the Oval Office. He liked to see people squirm while they attempted to act as if what he was doing was perfectly normal.

Some may wonder why JFK chose him for VP. Here's the real story, much of it verified by Evelyn Lincoln, JFK's longtime personal secretary:

Kennedy and Johnson actually hated each other. Johnson was a very powerful Senate Majority Leader and wanted desperately to become President. JFK
beat LBJ in the Democratic Primaries. JFK had already offered the VP running mate spot to Sen. Stuart Symington, which he accepted. Prior to JFK's public announcement, a meeting was called by the Johnson team, which included Texas's Sam Rayburn. Johnson and Rayburn insisted that LBJ become the VP, which the Kennedy team, particularly Bobby Kennedy, strongly opposed. Then, according to Lincoln, Rayburn and Johnson produced evidence of JFK's womanizing and threatened to release this scandalous information to their 'friends' in the press. Both JFK & RFK knew Johnson and Rayburn were 'holding all the cards' and, reluctantly, were forced to name LBJ as VP. This story was verified later by Stuart Symington himself, who was told by JFK that they 'had him in a bind' and that he had to reluctantly withdraw his offer.

As part of the negotiations between the Kennedy and Johnson teams, LBJ had insisted on being given an unusual amount of power as VP, which JFK vaguely agreed to. However, once in office, LBJ was pretty much ignored, pushed aside, belittled, and despised ... particularly by RFK. RFK was JFK's closest adviser, and RFK saw to it that LBJ's role in the new administration was severely diminished. The hatred between RFK and LBJ was real, and it was deep. After JFK's murder, RFK strongly believed that
LBJ played a role in his brother's assassination and cover-up.

Also, LBJ certainly had 'motive' and 'means.' A few months prior to the Assassination, LBJ's 'protege' from Texas, Bobby Baker, was named in a huge scandal involving 'influence peddling,' which no doubt was going to lead to exposing LBJ's deep corruption. Rumors were flying that JFK was going to use this scandal as an excuse to dump LBJ from the ticket in '64. The Senate was about to hold hearings regarding the entire scandal, but that all ended with JFK's death and LBJ becoming President.

An old Texan friend of mine told that a few of LBJ's election opponents committed suicide with a shotgun shot to the back of their heads. He also said that it costs 50K in campaign money to insert something in TX laws and regulations.
System has been corrupt forever, but the government controls more now so the idiocy and corruption is felt more.

First divided highway in TX was built between Austin (State capital) and a rather insignificant, middle of nowhere town called La Grange. Why?

La Grange had the best whorehouse in TX and state legislators wanted to get to/from La Grange quickly.

If Kennedy hadn't been so physically ill and louche/reckless in behavior and substance abuse, he might have had the wits to survive. Traveling in an open limousine in Texas as a bragging rights display in LBJ's nest wasn't the smartest thing to do.

LBJ belonged in a lunatic asylum for the criminally insane. He had his own sister executed, because she was a braying, loose lipped drunk.
