I work in a fab...they are mini-cities. Lots of drama. I don't think Intel has their own security team.

Market is definitely tight. Looking for a second job as my current one seems to prefer I do less than I have been. A resume that would have easily gotten me good work five years ago, seems to barely get any bites now days.

In the long run...you are self-employed. No one will ever pay you what you are worth. You are priceless, NuttBoxer :)

Current company sets the bar pretty low on a number of fronts, but pay is not one of them. That, and the fact that I get to automate is the only reason I stay. Now if I can just find a second gig to fill out the other four hours of the day...

And yes, I know I'm way late to the game, and many people have the two programming jobs at once. Better late than never...

“Where do you see yourself in five years?”

Probably laid off via a Zoom call.

Just saw on CNBC that Ebay is laying off 9% of its full time workforce.

Google recently annouced layoffs. Are the techs doing this to ensure earnings projections continue steadily upward ?

Perhaps its a reaction to them not meeting expectations for earnings for Oct-Dec 2023 ?

That's exactly what happened to me a year ago.

We're hiring an SDET, and so far among the applications I've seen a full stack dev, and QA manager/consultant/architect. In other words WAY overqualified. Are things really that bad?

Not according to the Democrats and the mainstream media

Get ready for something not seen since James Carville and the Clinton 1992 campaign

Except this time its going to be the 180 degrees opposite as far as convincing the independent voter that the economy is doing very well

Its going to be a lot of heavy programming and conditioning all the way to November's election day ... this even includes "massaging" economic data like GDP, inflation and unemployment

Ugh

Yeah Yahoo will do this as far as unpublish articles.

NY Post is more reliable than Yahoo at ensuring the article links remain active: https://nypost.com/2023/02/19/arizona-man-fatally-beats-coworker-with-baseball-bat-at-intel-cafeteria-police/

They appear to be correcting their previous overhiring, where they were hiring people to prevent competitors from hiring them, even though they had no work to give them. They are blaming AI because they don't want to talk about their own incompetence.

Plenty of jerk-off work from home jobs and DEI hires ... I like how Elon Musk cleaned house at Twitter

it will be interesting to see how the continue to manage their workforce like how Amazon is trying to refill leased office space by requiring workers to return to the office under a hybrid schedule

The job market is interesting. My biz partner has 3 friends, who have been looking since March 2023 with no luck. Two went through multiple rounds of interview, but didn’t get the job.

My tennis coach’s division got shut down last May. He got 9 months of severance. He took time off and traveled to Paris for Roland Garros; then New York for the US Open. Got a call from a recruiter and got a job with Cruise. 3 weeks into the job, they announced layoff and he got let go. They gave him 4 months of severance. Worked 6 months and got paid for 19 months in 2023. He took time off and went to Bangkok, then Australian Open. Just came back on Sunday. Got a call for a job interview yesterday. He just texted me he’s working on Monday.

It seems like when you’re not looking, you get job offers and higher salary, or maybe he’s specialized in a high demand niche profession.

more layoffs..

yet during the election year, the narrative is the economy is good (a reverse of Bill Clinton and James Carville talking economy in 1992) ...
