Is this image Photo Shopped or AI generated? What's the difference, and why should one care?

Castle House Rock, Dublin Ireland

This is photo shopped from a Khao Phing Kan islands in Thailand and German Castle Liechtenstein?

Just like the threat of "3D Printed Guns," when zip guns have been around for decades.

It used to be Photoshopped images took some time and care by reasonably skilled persons. Now, massive AI generated fakes of both pictures, vids, etc. complete with close to perfect vocoding can be cranked out in minutes without the kind of expense they used to require, which means fakery has become routine and ubiquitous.

All those Biden walk arounds with 'reporters' on some lawn around the White House with him going to the helicopter are almost if not all green screen fakes. The grass is always the same shade and looks the same, same daylight lighting, same weather, same seasonal state of vegetation, same fuzzy microphones waving around etc. You can also see him expand and shrink against the green screen when Biden isn't keeping proper perspective related to the backgrounds.

But people became suspicious of any image that challenged their intelligence. An image was considered bogus and photoshopped at first glance if it were suspect. It had to be confirmed not debunked. Also it's rare that an AI video is hard to debunk, it's always something out of character, and there's a glitch in the over emphasis of facial expressions. It's more often than not, that the first comments to AI videos are "That's got to be a fake".

That's a perfect example of AI just repurposing already currently capable technology and rebranding it as AI.

The Lasso tool has been around since Photo Shop and Corel Paint first or second version. Processor and Memory in computers are well enough now, that with a little extra coding, you can follow a mix of hard lines and colors to discern outlines with a little extra coding. Where as before it would lasso either on hard edges or related colors. Also the example image it used I'm pretty sure I could have lassoed out the bird and tree using Corel 7 which in my opinion was best version before it jumped the shark and became a camera bundle toy, than a sophisticated graphics suite.
