Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia's Space Agency and a close ally to Russian President Vladimir Putin, responded to Biden in a series of hostile tweets. On Feb. 26, he posted a video in Russian that threatened to leave Vande Hei behind in space and detach Russia's segment of the space station altogether.
Rogozin suggested Putin to hit Ukraine with a space rocket - BILD exclusive
BILD obtained recordings of conversations between Dmitry Rogozin and Dmitry Baranov, the general director of the Progress rocket and space center. Since the beginning of January 2023, they have been discussing the technical details of organizing an attack on a major city in Ukraine using a launch vehicle that is used to fly into space. Officials decided that it would be best to launch it from the cosmodrome in Plesetsk with explosives on board.
According to Baranov, the main problem is that due to supersonic reentry, existing heavy high-explosive bombs or guided warheads will overheat at a speed of 6 km/sec. Rogozin promises to consult with designer Yuri Solomonov about this. A few days later he found a solution. Another risk that Rogozin and Baranov discussed is that parts of the rocket could fall on Russian territory. They were also concerned that the impact error could range from 50 to 100 km.
Rogozin asks Baranov how long it will take him to prepare the operation. He answers that about six months. The ex-head of Roscosmos calls Vladimir Putin “our great and terrible” and says that he will convey the plan to him through Anton Vaino. According to BILD, the plan was brought to the attention of the Russian President on January 16. How he reacted to it is unknown.
