I went along with ‘social distancing’ and avoided my father’s house as he was dying of cancer. Never again.

... President Biden told reporters Friday he’s asking Congress “for funding for a new vaccine that is necessary, that works.” Why should we believe that after the long litany of noble lies and the coercion they were used to justify? ...

I’ll take my stand. Whatever happens, I won’t participate in meaningless gestures. That means no masks, under any circumstances. Never again.
I’ll also pledge no fist bumps, no grocery washing, no crossing the street to avoid my neighbors, no locking myself away from the world, no health attestations. I won’t present my papers. I won’t swab my nose morning, noon and night. And I won’t submit to mandates that fill my veins—or, more important, my children’s veins—with new drugs and vaccines that haven’t been tested the way drugs and vaccines normally are.

When I was a kid, the loudest voices urging me to “question authority” and “fight the power” came from the left. Now those same voices urge obedience to state control. Conservatives once stood for social conformity and personal discipline. Now they preach resistance and revolution. ...

To my mild shame, I largely did as I was told during the pandemic. I wore the masks, got the shots, worked from home, worshiped online. I even stayed away from my father’s house as he lay dying from cancer. I should have been there. I’ll never get over that.
I complied because everyone seemed to be complying and I didn’t have the guts to say no. In hindsight I can’t help but feel I sold my God-given freedom too cheaply. I won’t get fooled again.

They weren't making enough on the flu vaccine so they had to create a whole new category.

I don't know a single person anymore that has a concern here in the midwest. I'd say 50% here got suckered in for 6 months of it. I did for 3 months tops. Said this is bull shit and lived my life. I think coastal areas and highly populated areas were way more hung up on it. Flyover country thought it was stupid.

Haven't had it in a while, but if someone asks me to wear a mask I politely say no thank you. People don't know how to react to that. If you're not angry, they move along on their merry mask wearing way. And zero shits were given by me about their feelings.

We travelled through rural Illinois this summer and I saw idiots wearing face diapers at almost every store I went to.

If they've got TV, they've got suckers. Doesn't matter if they're urban or rural.

No event has traumatized me so much as watching nearly the whole of the professional, media, and academic class be entirely fine with the sudden imposition of totalitarian controls on association, movement, and speech provided they could luxuriate at home - believing there to be a killer virus extant - and hang out on video chats as the workers and peasants kept society running and delivered groceries to their front doors. That same group was thrilled to receive trillions in payments for having done this.

Again, nearly the whole of the top 1/3 of society was just fine with this, and certainly raised no objection. Many within this group manufactured excuses for their deeply disgusting disdain for others.

I doubt I can ever recover the respect I once had for the wealthy, the educated, the credentialed, and the successful. In the Covid period, they deployed their privileges as a weapons against modern ideals and against all the people they (secretly) regarded as their lessers.

This really happened. And it revealed everything.

In the end, they were rewarded for their disgraceful attitudes and behaviors. This reality, again, more than anything I've ever personally witnessed, has shaped my views on nearly everything and fundamentally disrupted much of what I once believed.
