Calling home base......

601   surfer-x   2005 Oct 26, 1:42am

No Fuchs, but the previous record has not been eclipsed yet. Today is the day. Long live the Fuchs.

602   SQT15   2005 Oct 26, 1:47am

The little Fucher.

603   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 2:05am

Wow, Stanman just made me sound like a raging feminist, which I am not. I would call myself more of a post-feminist traditionalist, whatever the hell that is. I just wrote a huge post that's so long no one will read it.

604   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 2:13am

"And no wonder Jamie is, um, you know…… “how she is!”"

Ha!

"How many pages a day do you write Jamie?"

I try for 10 double-spaced pages daily. That's long enough to get the "bugs" out and get into the story but not so long that I get burnt out. But I often don't make that goal. Some days I'm lucky to write one page, and other days when deadline is closing in I have been known to write 20 pages or more. 40 on a few very desperate occasions.

"Torrid. Very torrid."

Torrid is my middle name.

"Just like teaching art. It IS definitely “real” work, yet it beats real work!"

Exactly.

"crank crank out a ton of writing in a day, Every day. She gets in funks also."

It's very easy to burn out/get depressed/whatever when there's always a demand to write as fast as possible. I have weeks where I write nothing, just because it's impossible to keep being creative constantly. And there's business crap that gets in the way too, or creates other work to do besides writing. But I'm not complaining. I love it all.

605   SQT15   2005 Oct 26, 3:02am

I think I got lumped into the raging feminist group in Stanman's post too. Me? The stay at home mom? Go figure. I think that's why I was kind of snotty with him. But sometimes I get tired of the same old rants. It would be nice to know a reasonable argument could penetrate a thick skull once in awhile.

Jamie, 10 pages a day? That actually sounds doable. I just have to make myself sit still long enough, and not delete half of what I write to make it work. I mean, how many pages do you all figure we write on here on the "huh" thread day after day? If I put half as much energy into something productive I'd really be accomplishing something.

606   SQT15   2005 Oct 26, 7:02am

Was that Hadrian’s Wall?

We do seem to have hit the wall haven't we. Maybe 2000 just isn't meant to be.

607   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 7:51am

"Jamie, 10 pages a day? That actually sounds doable. I just have to make myself sit still long enough, and not delete half of what I write to make it work."

It takes some trial and error to find the right steady output number. I know some people who can only do a few pages a day comfortably, and others who can do 15 or 20.

I think of it in terms of mini-goals when I'm writing a first draft. Like, if I already have the scene in my head and just need to put it on paper, I know i can write 5 pages an hour, so theoretically two hours and I'm done. More often, it takes 3-5 hours, but I've gotten slower over the years as the echos of past rejections crowd my head. ;-)

608   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 7:53am

"As a poet"

Newsfreak, I love poetry and used to read and write it a lot before I became a pulp fiction slave. :-)

I think poetry and childrens' books are the two hardest things to write. So few words, so they have to be the perfect words, in the right order.

609   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 7:55am

"Bob Ross?"

Small birds could roost in that guy's hair.

610   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 8:03am

"Ah, morning…….. A light rain. Dirt always smells so good in the first rain."

You should smell the desert when it rains. It's like liquid dirt.

611   surfer-x   2005 Oct 26, 8:42am

You should smell the desert when it rains. It’s like liquid dirt.

Jamie, in the desert you can remember your name, cuz there ain't no one there for to give you no pain.

612   surfer-x   2005 Oct 26, 9:10am

Jack, Jack, Jack, thou protest too much. Remember, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.

I kid I kid

;)

613   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 9:20am

I have no idea what you guys are talking about! But of course, it's because I'm supposed to be barefoot and pregnant and not talking to the menfolk!

614   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 9:33am

LOL, I totally understood which monolithic posts you referred to.

615   Jamie   2005 Oct 26, 9:35am

"Jamie, in the desert you can remember your name, cuz there ain’t no one there for to give you no pain."

In the desert you can also remember all the reasons it's nice to have water.

616   Peter P   2005 Oct 26, 1:15pm

Why would you say that? Are you planning to abandon the “Huh?” thread? You just called it “home base” and everything!

Huh? We will not give in to thread-bubbleheads because there is no thread bubble. This thread will have 2000 comments in no time.

617   SQT15   2005 Oct 26, 3:09pm

LONG LIVE THE HUH? THREAD!

_sniff_

Man, I love you guys. Never let the dream die!

618   SQT15   2005 Oct 26, 3:26pm

Mangina?

Another movie reference that goes along with Surfer-X's mention of manwhoring. Deuce Bigelo Male Gigolo.

619   SJ_jim   2005 Oct 26, 3:47pm

Well...the funny things was...she said something like: "...sounds good to me" regarding mangina. I thought that was clearly huh-material, and definitely worthy of "some trouble."

Yeah, funny thing. Been sick for a little while...bad fever saturday night...sweated it out...then sinus/head cold each night since then. Was woken up early this morning by a dull, heavy chest ache...which came back around noon or so. If this shit keeps up, I might take it seriously. Plus I'm out of theraflu...not good.

620   SJ_jim   2005 Oct 26, 4:08pm

Wow, SQT really has Extremely Narrow and Very Attractive Data? As in ENVAD? That's amazing. I don't know if I believe it.
Is that true SQT? Don't be shy now....

Yeah, you guessed it...one of those headaches that only reminds you it's there when you sneeze, cough, laugh, or...standup. :)

621   Peter P   2005 Oct 26, 4:31pm

SQT said something about the night being young… must be Naaaaaaaaaaa

Huh?

622   SJ_jim   2005 Oct 26, 4:32pm

Do I even want to know what ENVAD is? ( wince )

Huh?
it's in fact nothing clever...it's defined in the prior sentence. :)

...about the night being young

Yaaaaaaaaaaaa

623   Peter P   2005 Oct 26, 4:32pm

Perhaps we should have a "Huh?" generator. Just highlight someone's comment, click, and it will be responded automagically with "Huh?"

624   SJ_jim   2005 Oct 26, 4:38pm

We will call it the "Huh-i000, i = 1, 2, 3..."

Introducing the all new "Huh-i000, i = 1, 2, 3..."
The efficient way to say..."could you please elaborate."
To manage your time more effectively while thread-hopping.
Because while there's always time for the "Huh?" thread, there isn't always time to type "Huh?".

625   SJ_jim   2005 Oct 26, 4:49pm

All right sleep's time now. g'nite PeterP, Jack, ?

626   SQT15   2005 Oct 27, 1:12am

Re: Mangina

I wasn't saying it "sounded good" in a literal sense (ewwwwwwwww) I meant as a funny addition to Surfer-X's comment. Why is it I think Surfer-X could've gotten away with that one?

Where is the Fuch's dammit??

Stanman did another of his endless posts. I don't even have the energy or the desire to bother with a rebuttal. Is there any reason to?
Off to feed the baby. Catch you all later.

627   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 1:24am

"Now, if only Dick would withdraw…"

This is completely inappopropriate for a public forum. Shame on you, Jack.

628   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 1:27am

"WILL YOU LOOK AT THE TIME S-MAN HAS TAKEN OUT OF MY DAY ALREADY! (and for what? for who?)"

I think I officially give up on that thread. I don't know. Will have to drink some more caffeine and get some work done before I decide for sure. Though your caveman-like comments at the end of that one post had me LMAO. Gotta give you props for that.

I missed all the fun last night. Suck.

629   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 1:28am

Welcome back SJ Jim! Sorry about the illness.

630   surfer-x   2005 Oct 27, 2:44am

No Fuchs. Depression spiral starting. New theory is that crazy old cat lady has him captive. Fuchs is planning his escape as I type. Involves a can opener, a dim witted dog to be used as a patsy, a high powered rifle and hiding her life alert button.

631   surfer-x   2005 Oct 27, 4:01am

Be patient, my Elko vet said cats can roam 20 miles, that is open space with many rodents in Nevada, heck, he could be in Humboldt County taking a toke.

hehehe, thanks Newfreak. I WANT MY CAT BACK!

632   SQT15   2005 Oct 27, 5:03am

Now, if only Dick would withdraw.....

This is completely inappopropriate for a public forum. Shame on you, Jack.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL......LMAO

_taking deep breaths_

I can't BELIEVE I didn't catch this the first time! Thank you Jamie for pointing it out.

633   SQT15   2005 Oct 27, 5:42am

Maybe I’m losing my edge. :-O

Perish the thought!

Btw....ladylike bj's?? Is there such a thing?

634   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 6:35am

"Btw….ladylike bj’s?? Is there such a thing?"

LOL, I'm no lady. Don't ask me. :-P I just thought it sounded very 50s or something.

635   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 9:20am

"Sounded very 50’s or something….

“Uh-Huh”"

Yes, back in the age of can openers...

636   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 9:21am

"NOW Jamie…. Do you REALLY expect us to sit here and believe that you didnt realize the ramifications of the now all-too-famous “i-pod” quote?"

Picture me blinking innocently.

637   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 9:22am

"All Hallow’s Eve approaches"

I think a Halloween black Monday would be fitting. I'm still rooting for Peter P's prediction.

638   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 12:36pm

Jack, are you, like, impersonating William Carlos Williams or something?

So much depends upon
the red iPod
glazed with rainwater
beside the white chickens.

(guess newsfreak has me thinking all poetically and stuff.)

639   Jamie   2005 Oct 27, 12:38pm

I don't think i got the line breaks right on that poem.
