You know Chicago area well enough I believe. There are just certain people and parts of the city you don't deal with. I did for 15 years. Visitors go to Navy Pier, Wrigley Field, Museum Campus, McCormick Place, etc. They simply don't see the dark side. It's dark.

I literally drove a beater car on purpose for 15 years because I didn't want to get car jacked. Always had a knife or blunt object in the car. Wasn't gonna dick with Chicago gun laws and victim becomes the criminal. Never dressed fancy or wore my watches. We had tenants that scared the fuck out of me if I'm being honest. I didn't deal with them often myself, but when I did I kept my head on a swivel.

Basically zero shock a Chicago tenant would kill their landlord. There's likely unreported battery of landlords across the city. Chicago makes evictions a pain in the ass. I'd never own investment property there personally. Generally takes a quarter/90 days to get people out legally. Ain't cheap either.

@CovfefeAnon One thing that I was first exposed to by @Steve_Sailer is the idea of using compilations or lists made for one purpose to investigate something else entirely

This is a great investigative technique because people don't create an entire internally consistent false world, they'll just lie about one thing in particular but these lies get exposed when they try to speak honestly about something else entirely

There are plenty of examples of Steve doing this and coming up with very interesting conclusions (and you should buy his book to see them!) but here's one that stand out to me

When you see some "random" crime story from NYC about some black serial subway assaulter you'll always read a bit in the story about how "he's been arrested 23 times and had an outstanding warrant for felony assault". This is a bare fact but this one bare fact actually reveals a (barely) hidden world - one where blacks aren't "overpoliced" (as progressives will assert) - but one where actually the system *ignores black crime as much as it can*

That one "minor" tidbit of fact in those stories reveals an entire hidden world... if you're able to think through the implications and if you have in your head a better model of the world to fit those facts into

Same thing happened a few years ago at the public school where I was teaching

AP knocked out, several other prison riot level fights broke out over a period of about two months and ended up on the local news

Administration finally banned cell phones, not because they made teaching the students impossible (which they did) but because too many parents were seeing what was happening in the school

The entire time we were told that we had to reduce the number of suspensions, even in the case of violence, using “restorative justice”because too many minority students were impacted

The school was majority minority so almost all suspensions were of poc

The solution was basically “we never discipline anyone who isn’t filmed caving someone’s head in” because otherwise we’re racist

I know he's a little guy, but did he at least punch back? Not that he deserved it but I always have my head on a swivel in cities or in busy bars. And yes, blacks are the first I profile to be wary of in cities. And white trash, which is more what I deal with in my rural area. Have 3 bars in my town and there's some burn outs that are in a specific one daily. We just stopped going unless we're playing volleyball.
