The Russian government classified fly larvae and eggs as agricultural products and approved a new procedure for their breeding.
Russian journalists drew attention to the document published on the website of the Russian government.
The government order is dated October 2023, but apparently it has not been widely popularized before.
The document, in particular, enshrines in Russian legislation the concept of "product from the black lion fly". Among such products:
larval fat,
finely ground fly flour,
flour of coarse grinding from the fly,
pellets from larvae,
puree from larvae.
In addition, the list of agricultural products was supplemented with the items "fly eggs" and "live, chilled and frozen fly larvae".
In this regard, the journalists recalled the initiative of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, Denys Manturov, who proposed to "work with the mentality" to teach Russians to eat fly larvae.

Tyson, a major US producer of beef, pork and chicken, is betting on protein that comes from insects.
The meat processor said on Tuesday that it has invested in Protix, a Netherlands-based insect ingredients maker. Tyson is not only taking a minority stake in the company, but is working alongside it to build a US factory. That facility will use animal waste to feed black soldier flies, which will then be turned into food for pets, poultry and fish. Tyson did not disclose the financial specifics of the deal.
Yep, over a trillion (with a T) cicadas bursting forth
