23-year-old American Cole Hocker won his first Olympic medal, shocking a stacked men’s 1500m field to win gold in Paris.

Hocker was in fourth place entering the bell lap. But he took the inside lane and blazed down the home stretch to sprint by Tokyo Olympic champion and presumptive favorite Jakob Ingebrigsten, reigning world champion Josh Kerr and U.S. teammate Yared Nuguse to claim the Olympic title.

With a time of 3:27.65, Hocker set an Olympic record in the process.

Ponytail power!

Get the name right. It's Hooker, not Hocker.

I don't care or watch the Olympics, but that's an impressive time for that event.

The context made Hocker’s win all the more enjoyable to watch. The talking heads had zeroed in on the rivalry of the two runners who were expected to get gold - Jakob Ingebrigsten from Norway, and Josh Kerr from Great Britain. Both bitch talk the other, and the Norwegian claims he is better than everybody. During the live broadcast there was no banter from the clueless talking heads about the three Americans in the race, just the two stars, although in the rebroadcast, they slyly edited it in. Ingebrigsten led throughout the race, setting a blisteringly fast pace, but the three Americans were still in it, although no better than fifth for a while, until the amazing finish. Hocker edged up into third with the two stars in first and second, dueling for gold. Hocker attempted to pass Ingebrigsten on his left but he blocked him. Keeping his composure, he faded back a bit into third until he found his opening and then sped past Ingebrigsten on his left with now Hocker and Kerr dueling for gold. Just as it looked like Kerr had it, Hocker kicks out and takes gold just as they neared the finish line. Even more amazing, a second American, Yared Naguse, got bronze, with a photo finish with Kerr who got silver. The cocky Ingebrigsten did not medal, finishing fourth.

Before i saw the story, i had no idea that a time of 3:27.65 set an Olympic record. Funny thing is, I still don't give a shit.

Neither do I. That's a fast white boy though. He could be jogging and run faster than anyone on Patnet. It's rather impressive. I didn't watch.
