Hunter Biden was hired by Romanian businessman trying to ‘influence’ US agencies, prosecutors say
WASHINGTON (AP) - Hunter Biden was hired by a Romanian businessman accused of corruption who was trying to “influence U.S. government policy” during Joe Biden’s term as vice president, prosecutors said in court papers Wednesday.
Special counsel David Weiss’ team said Hunter Biden’s business associate will testify at the upcoming federal tax trial of the president’s son about the arrangement with the executive, Gabriel Popoviciu, who was facing criminal investigation at the time in Romania.
The allegations are likely to bring a fresh wave of criticism of Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings, which have been the center of Republicans’ investigations into the president’s family. Hunter Biden has blasted Republican inquiries into his family’s business affairs as politically motivated, and has insisted he never involved his father in his business.
The new 292-page report was prepared by the House Judiciary Committee, House Oversight Committee, and the House Ways and Means Committee.
According to the report, Biden has “abused his office” and “defrauded the United States to enrich his own family.” ...
Congressional investigators determined that there is “overwhelming evidence” that Biden participated in a “conspiracy to monetize his office of public trust to enrich his family.”
They alleged that members of the Biden family and their business associates received tens of millions of dollars from foreign interests.
The flow of cash in the family’s bank accounts was achieved by “leading those interests to believe that such payments would provide them access to and influence with President Biden.”
The committees said the Biden family and its associates received more than $27 million from foreign individuals or entities since 2014.
The nearly 300-page report on Biden family corruption matters for many reasons, the most important of which is to restore America’s standing in the world.
With Joe Biden out as Democrats’ candidate for president, the House of Representatives’ report on the impeachment inquiry released this morning may give off a “What difference, at this point, does it make?” vibe.
After all, even if the House votes to impeach the president, the Senate won’t convict him and he’ll be out of office and politics forever in January 2024. The nearly 300-page report nonetheless matters for many reasons, the most important of which is to restore America’s standing in the world.
Over more than 150 pages, the House’s impeachment report establishes that Joe Biden conspired with his family members and their business partners to monetize his position as vice president. In exchange for access to then-Vice President Biden, foreign individuals and entities gave various Biden family members and their friends more than $27 million—some of those proceeds passed directly on to the Big Guy.
Those generalities fail to adequately capture the audacity of the conspiracy, or the harm to our country caused by Biden announcing through his conduct that the United States of America can be bought. Four specific payoffs crystallize both. ...

The Republican-led House committees investigating whether to impeach President Joe Biden released their long-awaited report about their findings Monday morning, arguing that Biden has committed impeachable conduct but deferring to the full House on whether to pursue a formal impeachment.
The nearly 300-page report is a summary of the investigation conducted by the House Oversight, Judiciary and Ways and Means committees over the past year and a half, nearly all of which has already been made public.
It argues that Biden enriched himself through his family’s business ventures and concealed his mishandling of classified information in office, the subject of the investigation conducted by special counsel Robert Hur, who declined to press charges this year.
In addition, the committees say that the Justice Department mishandled its investigation into his son Hunter Biden’s tax problems and that the White House has withheld key documents and witnesses from the impeachment investigation.
“The totality of the corrupt conduct uncovered by the Committees is egregious. President Joe Biden conspired to commit influence peddling and grift. In doing so, he abused his office and, by repeatedly lying about his abuse of office, has defrauded the United States to enrich his family,” the report says.
