I have a better idea. Back in the 90s, the Warsaw Pact dissolved and thus, the war against communism was over.
As a result, NATO should have rescinded into the basic three countries: USA, Canada, and the UK. In other words, the only three countries where if one is attacked, it's the same as all of them being attacked.
Here's why I say this ... if Greece and Turkey were to go to war over Cyrus, due to ethnic strifes, why should it involve others? NATO cannot be a blanket organization for the military industrial complex, instead, it needs to be a parred down organization protecting the historic and cultural unities found among its member nations. I don't think anyone will deny a united defense front between the USA, Canada, and the UK is irrational or out of the question. It's a natural alliance and should continue forward.
Other alliances should be on a case by case basis, just like in the case of South Korea, where they're allied with the US, against North Korea and probably China during a potential conflict.
