Did anyone else catch this great news item? It appears that the Obama administration has just quietly launched QE2.1 - The Reckoning (as I like to call it)...

http://community.nasdaq.com/News/2011-06/1-billion-in-homeowner-aid-offered.aspx?storyid=81588

Apparently this is masquerading as a $50,000 loan to mortgage holders that have fallen behind on payments, but does anyone else think this is just an ill-conceived way to bailout the banks and keep thousands of bad mortgages on the books?

/Sigh - looks like we'll have to wait a few more years for housing sanity to be restored to the markets.

The new initiative is expected to provide assistance to up to 30,000 homeowners, with loans averaging $35,000 each. Loans may be used to pay a portion of monthly mortgage bills, including missed mortgage payments or past due charges including principal, interest, taxes, insurances, and attorney fees.

CA version:
http://www.keepyourhomecalifornia.org/ - here any bail out money is not handed to the owner, its sent directly to the mortgage servicer. bail outs for the lenders keep on rolling.

This might be the same thing. Just a bail out of financial institutions. Kicking the can down the road.

I almost think the only way you can get ahead in this country is to either be a bankster, or a squatter. Savers get shafted every time.

Saving is evil. If you don't go out to the mall and shop, the terrorists have won!

I'm pretty sure 125% of these people getting the free $ actually are working full time off the books and pay zero income tax on thier income.

(grow houses, construction work, paid under table, etc., etc)

At which point will a critical mass of honest people paying in to the system simply pull out and join the freeloaders? I think we passed it already..... Evidence:Federal deficit spending.

Q: Are they offering these bailouts to distressed renters?
A: No

Q: Would bailing out renters help the bank?
A: No

That’s the reality whether we like it or not. Therefore, use the system to one’s advantage. Whining and bitching won’t get one anywhere.

So we're not supposed to whine when our govt spends money in ways which we don't agree with? Or maybe you agree with this garbage, and want to pull the preachy-Nomo "you must be unhappy if you are complaining" line.

I was wondering how long it would take Klarek to chime in here.... No mention of deadbeats though. Caught me off guard with that.

Guess you forgot to tell that to the Egyptian people.

Yep, use it until it collapses and turns the screw on the abuser. LOL.

This news story of the free 50k to bailout banks/squatters is crazy.

Its like watching Bernie Madoff in the last 2 years before his ponzi collapsed - he musta done crazy stuff that 'didn't seem to make any sense' if you could have watched..... but of course any price is worth paying to keep your ponzi from blowing up...its not your $ anyway who cares!

I'm so flattered you were thinking of me.

This isn't about deadbeats. The fact that you cannot delineate between individuals seeking quick profits while deferring their losses versus a govt looking to pour gas on every fire around is sad.

It's not so much that I couldn't tell the difference--I just assumed that you couldn't. I stand corrected.
