"But worse is the area James calls asshole capitalism. It is what created the economic bind we're in. A bank sold mortgage packages to investors at the same time it was betting the mortgages would fail. Federal prosecutors just sued another bank for selling the government $1 billion in faulty mortgages."
Here's the problem, nobody minds being called an asshole anymore. Often rightfully so because the definition depends on people's definition of morals which can widely vary. Instead of bitching about assholes they should have applied the rule of law and put the assholes peddling securities to investors as "safe and great opportunities" while betting against them into JAIL and dissolved their insolvent companies in bankruptcy court. Anybody who does not advocate and fight for applying the rule of law (in this case for crystal-clear fraud) is part of the problem and as guilty as the people they call assholes - which does nothing to help the issue.
What do you call the SYSTEM that keeps this out of sight?

The coming and going of irrationality dominates, and is unspoken!
"The public be suckered" is both the track record, AND keeping it out of sight
