Are homeowners happier than renters? Not according to a new paper by a real-estate professor at the University of Pennsylvanias Wharton School. The average homeowner, however, consistently derives more pain (but no more joy) from their house and home, writes Grace Wong Bucchianeri, an assistant professor at Wharton. The report says that homeowners spend, on average, less time on leisure than those who dont own homes. And the average homeowner is around 12 pounds heavier that those who rent. The basis for the research comes from a survey of women in Franklin County, Ohio, which includes Columbus, the state capitol...

That's not true, I'm just a beacon of Joy.

Study, lemme guess they asked all of the people that were just weeks away from foreclosure, "How's you outlook on life?"

I suppose I must not fit their mold then. I bought a home a year ago and am pretty happy about it.

If this study had also been done in past decades it would be especially interesting. Millions of people have been through some pretty terrible experiences owning a house during these times when mortgages are played with as high stakes games by the financiers.

This professor's home must be currently very under-water or her home has already been short sold or foreclosed on ! She needs to sit tight and continue paying her mortgage because in time she will own a free and clear home worth a lot of money whereas the renters will have to continue to pay rent which will continue rising and they will have nothing to show for it !

I bought 13 houses over the past year, and lost 13 pounds.... Should I buy 10 more to lose the last 10?

I think you're joking, but maybe you would do well to let others know that what you wrote has no connection to the attempt at science which is the subject of the thread.

Yours is an example of non-science and could be mistakenly connected with the other things you write.

In fact, all children that reside in rentals are the progeny of rape victims

Go far enough back, and this is probably true of ALL of us.

will see about that in say...10 years, when owners continue to pay $2000/month and renters pay $4000/month !!!!

Of course I'm freaking joking... I also think the original article might have been an attempt at science, but more likely should be viewed as joke.

Well, then you're not joking. You are questioning the science in the article. That's fair. It looks to me that they were pretty thorough/thoughtful about the analysis. Do you have a specific consideration they missed which is the reason for your criticism?

I don't know why you'd get defensive, for, as you say, you are obviously an exception to the findings. That's how statistics work, right?

Why was the only article of truth in this whole thread disliked?

Because "truth" is a long debated philosophical concept.

Interesting article, do the editors want to convince us to become a renter nation?

Great news for Roberto as this forecasts more people wanting to rent.

Yo mamma so fat, she owns her home instead of renting it.

Well, no shit; "The basis for the research comes from a survey of women in Franklin County, Ohio". If i lived there I would be suicidal, renter or owner.
