"Jamie, 10 pages a day? That actually sounds doable. I just have to make myself sit still long enough, and not delete half of what I write to make it work."
It takes some trial and error to find the right steady output number. I know some people who can only do a few pages a day comfortably, and others who can do 15 or 20.
I think of it in terms of mini-goals when I'm writing a first draft. Like, if I already have the scene in my head and just need to put it on paper, I know i can write 5 pages an hour, so theoretically two hours and I'm done. More often, it takes 3-5 hours, but I've gotten slower over the years as the echos of past rejections crowd my head. ;-)
"As a poet"
Newsfreak, I love poetry and used to read and write it a lot before I became a pulp fiction slave. :-)
I think poetry and childrens' books are the two hardest things to write. So few words, so they have to be the perfect words, in the right order.
"Ah, morning…….. A light rain. Dirt always smells so good in the first rain."
You should smell the desert when it rains. It's like liquid dirt.
You should smell the desert when it rains. It’s like liquid dirt.
Jamie, in the desert you can remember your name, cuz there ain't no one there for to give you no pain.
Jack, Jack, Jack, thou protest too much. Remember, if you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with.
I kid I kid
;)
I have no idea what you guys are talking about! But of course, it's because I'm supposed to be barefoot and pregnant and not talking to the menfolk!
"Jamie, in the desert you can remember your name, cuz there ain’t no one there for to give you no pain."
In the desert you can also remember all the reasons it's nice to have water.
Why would you say that? Are you planning to abandon the “Huh?†thread? You just called it “home base†and everything!
Huh? We will not give in to thread-bubbleheads because there is no thread bubble. This thread will have 2000 comments in no time.
LONG LIVE THE HUH? THREAD!
_sniff_
Man, I love you guys. Never let the dream die!
Mangina?
Another movie reference that goes along with Surfer-X's mention of manwhoring. Deuce Bigelo Male Gigolo.
Well...the funny things was...she said something like: "...sounds good to me" regarding mangina. I thought that was clearly huh-material, and definitely worthy of "some trouble."
Yeah, funny thing. Been sick for a little while...bad fever saturday night...sweated it out...then sinus/head cold each night since then. Was woken up early this morning by a dull, heavy chest ache...which came back around noon or so. If this shit keeps up, I might take it seriously. Plus I'm out of theraflu...not good.
Wow, SQT really has Extremely Narrow and Very Attractive Data? As in ENVAD? That's amazing. I don't know if I believe it.
Is that true SQT? Don't be shy now....
Yeah, you guessed it...one of those headaches that only reminds you it's there when you sneeze, cough, laugh, or...standup. :)
SQT said something about the night being young… must be Naaaaaaaaaaa
Huh?
Do I even want to know what ENVAD is? ( wince )
Huh?
it's in fact nothing clever...it's defined in the prior sentence. :)
...about the night being young
Yaaaaaaaaaaaa
Perhaps we should have a "Huh?" generator. Just highlight someone's comment, click, and it will be responded automagically with "Huh?"
We will call it the "Huh-i000, i = 1, 2, 3..."
Introducing the all new "Huh-i000, i = 1, 2, 3..."
The efficient way to say..."could you please elaborate."
To manage your time more effectively while thread-hopping.
Because while there's always time for the "Huh?" thread, there isn't always time to type "Huh?".
Re: Mangina
I wasn't saying it "sounded good" in a literal sense (ewwwwwwwww) I meant as a funny addition to Surfer-X's comment. Why is it I think Surfer-X could've gotten away with that one?
Where is the Fuch's dammit??
Stanman did another of his endless posts. I don't even have the energy or the desire to bother with a rebuttal. Is there any reason to?
Off to feed the baby. Catch you all later.
"Now, if only Dick would withdraw…"
This is completely inappopropriate for a public forum. Shame on you, Jack.
"WILL YOU LOOK AT THE TIME S-MAN HAS TAKEN OUT OF MY DAY ALREADY! (and for what? for who?)"
I think I officially give up on that thread. I don't know. Will have to drink some more caffeine and get some work done before I decide for sure. Though your caveman-like comments at the end of that one post had me LMAO. Gotta give you props for that.
I missed all the fun last night. Suck.
No Fuchs. Depression spiral starting. New theory is that crazy old cat lady has him captive. Fuchs is planning his escape as I type. Involves a can opener, a dim witted dog to be used as a patsy, a high powered rifle and hiding her life alert button.
Be patient, my Elko vet said cats can roam 20 miles, that is open space with many rodents in Nevada, heck, he could be in Humboldt County taking a toke.
hehehe, thanks Newfreak. I WANT MY CAT BACK!

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL......LMAO
_taking deep breaths_
I can't BELIEVE I didn't catch this the first time! Thank you Jamie for pointing it out.
Maybe I’m losing my edge. :-O
Perish the thought!
Btw....ladylike bj's?? Is there such a thing?
"Btw….ladylike bj’s?? Is there such a thing?"
LOL, I'm no lady. Don't ask me. :-P I just thought it sounded very 50s or something.
"Sounded very 50’s or something….
“Uh-Huhâ€"
Yes, back in the age of can openers...
"NOW Jamie…. Do you REALLY expect us to sit here and believe that you didnt realize the ramifications of the now all-too-famous “i-pod†quote?"
Picture me blinking innocently.
"All Hallow’s Eve approaches"
I think a Halloween black Monday would be fitting. I'm still rooting for Peter P's prediction.
Jack, are you, like, impersonating William Carlos Williams or something?
So much depends upon
the red iPod
glazed with rainwater
beside the white chickens.
(guess newsfreak has me thinking all poetically and stuff.)
"So then what WERE you polishing"
The floors, of course.
(which I guess could get me in even more trouble than the iPod comment...but what the hell.)
"The spaces were simply an illustration "
Of course. You're an artist. You were trying to paint me a picture, so to speak.
