True, but the different adoption is probably due to the weather and culture.
I have read before that there is that line across Europe which distinguishes many north vs south cultural aspects:
- the north drinks beer, the south drinks wine
- the north has wide pillows, the south has (had, maybe) cylindrical pillows
- the north has loaves of bread, the south has long bread like baguettes

I lived in Austria for a year. It's primarily a beer-drinking country, so the map is not quite right. Fun map anyway.
