I'm a bit suspicious as to why platinum would be in an antennae, especially a pound of the stuff. Gold is used in electronics, but only very small amounts.

I am familiar with broadcast antennas in the VHF and UHF range and they are either hollow metal with loops or a thin strand of staggered metal filament in a fiberglass rod. I do not think gig range has a significantly different tech. Maybe the copper is the wires leading from the base of the tower to the antennas at the top.

The joke being to risk your neck to climb a live tower with a saw, just like saying the bowls in the lion's cage at the zoo are solid gold.

That's all true, imho. For example, Dachau near Munich is often cited as an extermination camp, but it wasn't. It was a harsh place, and people did die there, but mostly of disease. The camps where many people were outright murdered were generally in Poland, and they weren't just Jews.

I had a Polish Catholic relative who was something like mayor of his town. The Germans put him in Dachau where he became very ill, and then released him just before he died so he would not be counted as a death in the camp. Anyway, something like two million Poles were also killed, and we're not taught that at all.
