Apparently, the battery powered bikes have the same gyroscopic stabilization at certain speed as motorcycles.
In Santa Cruz, I saw a kid going downhill in traffic on an electric bike standing up on it with one foot on the seat and the other foot on the handlebars steering WITH A CELL PHONE TO HIS EAR. I estimate he was going at least 30mph. Santa Cruz has an active 'Future Quadrapalegics of America Club' due to the many athletic endeavors, with the wheelchair crowd to prove it.
