Anyone who tries to argue that some specific aspect of religion is illogical is wasting their time.
We're talking about people who believe that a virgin got pregnant by god, had his baby, the baby grew up and got killed for preaching, and then came back to life. Most of them think the earth is only a few millennia old and that god talks to people and tells them what to do.
I mean, really? We're already clearly in the realm of myth and fantasy. It's well established that people pick and choose which parts of their religion that they support and ignore the rest. When they don't do that, we call them "fundamentalists".

Bill's point in this monologue is that it is hypocritical to claim to be a devote Christian and not follow the hippie philosophy set forth by Jesus in the New Testament. And he's right on mark.

By time the trial was over, and Osama would have been put in an Electric chair with out the wet sponge or hood over his face. There would have been no doubt "We got the Bastard!".
But at least he would have had his day/s in court.

By the way, it just so happens that Bush is the second search result for "confused" in Google Image Search. Totally coincidental. And it's the only picture that's not faking confusion.

But there's a whole lot of stuff that Jesus said that Christians don't follow. Pointing out this one thing is just wasting your time. People who believe in a magic sky fairy and his zombie bastard aren't ever going to change their minds based on logical argument.
As for The GOP's rant, he's just mad that it was a democrat that killed Osama. If Bush had managed to do the exact same thing they'd be gloating about it.

Believing in the resurrection of Jesus Christ is the one thing that cannot be open to debate in any Christian religion. If you don't believe that, then the whole deal is off. That's why it's dogma in every branch of Christianity.

I’m not even judging you, I’m just saying logically if you ignore every single thing Jesus commanded you to do, you’re not a Christian – you’re just auditing.

It is hilarious because it's not my words. It's a comedic monologue from Bill Maher's HBO show Real Time. Hence the huge picture of Bill Maher at the top of this thread.
You really need to have a doctor look at your humor gland, because it was pretty obviously a monologue.
Granted, Maher does make a serious point in the standup routine, but the references to Matthew McConaughey and Gandhi should have been sufficient for you to figure out that it's a sketch.
But if you want to challenge me to a Jesus-off, I'll kick your butt six ways to Sunday. For you see, I went to a Catholic parochial elementary school run by nuns and a high school run by Christian Brothers, and I had to take boring classes like Church History, and I aced them all. So, I probably know a hell of lot more about the philosophy, history, and practice of Christianity than you do. And I say Bill Maher is right. Most Christians are Jesus fans, but they don't believe in his philosophies.

New rule: if you're a Christian who supports killing your enemies and torture, you have to come up with a new name for yourself.
Last week, as I was explaining why I didn't feel at all guilty about Osama's targeted assassination, I made some jokes about Christian hypocrisy and since then strangers have been coming up to me and forcing me to have the same conversation.
So let me explain two things. One, I'm not Matthew McConaughey. He surfs a long board. And two, capping thine enemy is not exactly what Jesus would do. It's what Suge Knight would do.
For almost 2,000 years, Christians have been lawyering the Bible to try and figure out how "love thy neighbor†can mean "hate thy neighbor†and how "turn the other cheek†can mean "screw you I'm buying space lasers.â€
Martin Luther King gets to call himself a Christian because he actually practiced loving his enemies.
And Gandhi was so fucking Christian he was Hindu.
But if you rejoice in revenge, torture and war – hey, that's why they call it the weekend – you cannot say you're a follower of the guy who explicitly said, "love your enemies†and "do good to those who hate you.†The next line isn't "and if that doesn't work, send a titanium fanged dog to rip his nuts off.â€
Jesus lays on that hippie stuff pretty thick. He has lines like, "do not repay evil with evil,†and "do not take revenge on someone who wrongs you.†Really. It's in that book you hold up when you scream at gay people.
And not to put too fine a point on it, but nonviolence was kind of Jesus' trademark. Kind of his big thing. To not follow that part of it is like joining Greenpeace and hating whales. There's interpreting, and then there's just ignoring.
It's just ignoring if you're for torture – as are more evangelical Christians than any other religion. You're supposed to look at that figure of Christ on the cross and think, "how could a man suffer like that and forgive?†Not, "Romans are pussies, he still has his eyes.â€
If you go to a baptism and hold the baby under until he starts talking, you're missing the message. Like, apparently, our president, who says he gets scripture on his Blackberry first thing every morning, but who said on 60 Minutes that anyone who would question that Bin Laden didn't deserve an assassination should, "have their head examined.â€
