The prostitute in Nat. Geo. wasn't going to buy real estate in Hong Kong do you think? I believe that she would be doing all kinds of business in mainland China with that dough.
Incidentally, the first time I was in Hong Kong this was a surprise to me, not having read up on the place. I was on a layover between Tokyo and Oz. I was having a last drink before catching my plane out and the ladies in the bar were very friendly and wore very hot tight "qi pao" dresses with that slit up their leg. I didn't understand that I could have "take out waitress" to my room, but I was on my way anyhow.
In mainland China it's in all nice hotels actually. If you register alone often guys get phone calls from them. They also lurk outside the fancy hotels in Beijing, Shanghai, etc.

Latest National Geographic had an article about Hong Kong. It featured a prostitute who charged $60 for 40 min of her services, and in a matter of a few years she had saved up $100k. She invested her inarguably hard-earned money in real estate! Peak sign?
