The far-right has gone nuts. Maybe they always were nuts, but they never seemed to dominate the Republican primaries (and the media) like they do now. Of course, at the end of the day, the Republican elite know they have to pick a moderate (like Romney) to run.
The Republican base will still vote for Romney out of fear/hatred of Obama, and the Republican elite know it. It's the same playbook as in 2008. McCain a conservative? Ha!
