Can someone please explain, why both spouses don't die of heart disease, when they both clearly shared the same diet for 50-60 years?

TO much of anything is bad for you this is true, but granola eaters are as much at risk of suffering a heart attack as anyone that ate bacon once a week all their life.

As we evolve as a society, new norms are formed as our understanding of the world around us changes.

That statement could be used to support *any* cause.
Who's norms? Who's understanding of the world? Yours? Mine?

YesYNot says

The tide is changing on gay rights due to newer understandings of the number of people who are gay

The "might makes right" argument again. At least you're consistent. "If a large number of people are doing X, then X is ok!"

YesYNot says

Our society is not looking any more favorably on bestiality, polygamy

Why not? Isn't our society "evolving"? What exactly is "our society"? It seems pretty divided right now.

So answer my question:

Why should the definition of marriage be limited to two people? Or, since you brought it up, why should it be limited to one species?

Marriage should be limited to consenting adults. Animals can not consent.

freak80 says

Why should the definition of marriage be limited to two people?

Good question it probably should not, but once again polygamy raises a host of other issues that are not comparable to gay marriage.

Why should Judaism be limited to Jews, people that have been Bat Mitzvah for that matter?

Why can't a Pig farmer, just go down to the synagogue and apply to be Jewish?

These folks must miss the old days when you could proudly discriminate, hang people deemed less human and do all sorts of nasty things and be proud of it.

Are you suggesting that wanting to preserve the traditional definition of marriage is equivalent to hangings? Please, make that case!

Why is it LIBERALS can NOT resist the temptation to demean, disparage, insult, ridicule, slander, use degrading sexual innuendo, swear, curse and use undefined slogans when posting?

Why is that type of behavior virtually non existent from the conservative/libertarian side???

Surveys suggest the more liberal a person is the more miserable they are. Yup, its always someone else's fault, its "The Man", the rich, the conservatives, the successful, Big Pharma, Big Oil, business owners, etc.

Some of you are very liberal and are obviously very miserable. It manifests itself in your posts...hope you get better soon.

That's silly.

Wouldn't the granola eater be at much greater risk of suffering a heart attack, then the bacon eater?

how can eating bacon cause a heart attack?

How do I know when i ve crossed the just enough bacon threshold, and eaten too much? Is the 1/2 lb I eat for breakfast everyday, too much?

What about the lb of back fat I'm grabbing for lunch from down at the puerto rican food cart?

They don't want your type coming along and messing up the gene pool, gotta keep the race pure

You're just full of piss and vinegar anyways

Maybe if the pig farmer grew his sideburns out long to a perm, and stopped drinking tap water, he could go acidic jew. That is, so long as he had the priest there to pray for and bless that succulent hog, just as he was about to slaughter it

Its no wonder anyone would eat anything not Kosher'd. I mean, imagine the unholy acts that bag of pretzels that doesn't have the circled K on them, wreaks havoc on your guts. You need a good rabbi to pray for your flour and sodium, as it bakes

Ate there, loved it (I rarely eat fast food), but I support free speech. I also support free enterprise, you don't want to eat there (for whatever reason) then don't eat there. I don't spend my money at JC Pennys, Starbucks or Target because I disagree with their support of gay marriage, but it's free speech and free enterprise.

P N Dr Lo R says

Even if marriage didn't have a moral or religious context, the fact that it takes a man and woman to produce children, not two women or two men, should settle the argument.

thats the whole point in support of marriage between man and women..accepted by all cultures today and through out history.. it is the legit sons and daughters who carry your name and their children... the legit blood line! If your gay, you pretty much kill off the family name and lineage..

Chick Fil A isn't a anti gay company.

they financially support anti-gay groups. I don't care if they're christian. if I ate there the most annoyed I'd be with their christianity is that they're closed on sunday.

however, once they start funding political groups that push an agenda they've welcomed this kind of response from people. you want to play in politics don't be a whiny little baby when people start playing politics in return.

BTW, your president had the same stance as Don Cathy until a month or so ago...until it "evolved" hahaha.

Now black church leaders are naturally upset with obamas evolved stance and will not stand with or support him for re-election.

obama is anti-church, anti-family, anti-business, anti-success, anti-presonal responsibility. Well done, if you're a commie.

xrpb11a says

so now you want to redefine 'mayo' as well as 'marriage'...well, that's on topic with the thread...

If one were to construct an amendment to the Constitution based on a literal reading of the Bible it might well contain the following stipulations:

1. Marriage in the United States shall consist of a union between one man and one or more women. (Gen 29:17-28; II Sam 3:2-5)

2. Marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines, in addition to his wife or wives. (II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21)

3. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed. (Deut 22:13-21)

4. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden. (Gen 24:3; Num 25:1-9; Ezra 9:12; Neh 10:30)

5. Since marriage is for life, neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any State, nor any state or federal law, shall be construed to permit divorce. (Deut 22:19; Mark 10:9)

6. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother's widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall pay a fine of one shoe, and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by law. (Gen. 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)

*****

You see, I realized the hypocrisy of the bible when I was in grade school. I have no problems with people having their own faith, but in 20 years or maybe less... The history books will probably look back on this period the same as de-segregation and slavery issues of the past. Remember seeing WHITES ONLY water fountains in history books or NO COLOREDS signs outside stores and finding it so odd!?

I think Anti-Gay Marriage advocates will be looked back upon with derision for those holding the GOD HATES QUEERS and GOD MADE ADAM AND EVE NOT ADAM AND STEVE signs. Future generations will look at you and laugh.

How can you believe ANY of this? You really think that Black church leaders won't support Obama in 2012?

Or that Obama, one of only a handful of sitting Presidents to preside over such a rapid increase in the DJIA is anti-business? Turn off your AM radio...it is miring you in partisan blindness.

the real tragedy, is that you people eat the kind of crap in the first place

well, at least with AHA, now we're all going to have to pay for the crappy western diet, together.

How does that shit even constitute food?

a headless, limbless, genetically modified 'chicken' breast on two big, doughy pieces of nutrition-less bread. I guess it beats the wet cardboard with catsup and dehydrated onions on a 3 piece sesame roll, with fried potatoes and soda pop, across the way. sigh

we have people unknowingly eating themselves to death, their subconscious flooded with advertisements for these "fast food restaurants", and the best problem we can think to bitch about is the societal label we want to accept for same sex relationships. And we wonder why the world is so fucked

So answer my question:

Why should the definition of marriage be limited to two people? Or, since you brought it up, why should it be limited to one species?

Personally, I don't really care about this issue. But, I've answered your question a number of times.

Morality is based on social norms. Period. There is social pressure to accept gay marriage. There is no similar pressure to accept polygamy.

We all agree that murder is bad, and so it is illegal. My personal belief is that understanding these fairly universal morals is due to evolutionary instinct. It is codified into law, and thereby strengthened in humans, but other species generally follow most aspects of our moral codes. Some people believe that God laid down the rules & they have been recorded in book X, Y, or Z. Most of the God derived moral codes are consistent with human nature. Others are based on the 'evolution' of religion. The fittest (most likely to propagate) religions survive. So, policies such as no contraception are common, as they help the church thrive. Even these policies fall prey to social norms. The Catholic church can hold on to the don't masturbate or use contraception idea, but eventually, on a global basis, they will lose more followers due to lack of interest than they gain through procreation. At some point, they will change course.

So, you religious people can hold onto your irritation with gay marriage. Politicians will eat at Chick Fil A for a photo op. Blah, blah. But in the end, the tide is turning. Progressives can really relax on the issue, because time is on our side. But it is good to vote with your wallet when a CEO uses proceeds or even his personal earnings and bully pulpit to support political causes.

Like it or not, words are constantly being redefined, new ones are invented, etc. That is how language works! Do people really not understand that? Are you kidding me? Why does anyone care that a word definition is changing?

74   MAGA   2012 Aug 2, 11:07am

I like Chick-Fil-A. They make great sandwiches. That as well as lemonade.

75   Cheeseus Sonofdog   2012 Aug 2, 11:29am

Traditional marriage is state discrimination. The entitlements, tax breaks and other goodies make it discrimination when you don't give the same to others. I am unmarried and hope gays are allowed to marry. Then society will question why government gives these goodies for simply being married. Society will end all of the goodies. Then the unmarried will no longer be discriminated against. Make it all a simple civil incorporation that any consenting adults can enter. be they straight, gay, siblings or a group of eight. Just don't use my tax money to support their spouse.

As for Chick-Fil-A, this is only an outcry because we no longer consider liberty worthy. Discrimination IS liberty. It's when I as an individual get to choose. Tyranny is when government forces its sole choice on you. We no longer allow individuals to choose who they let inside their private business. Why they hire. Why they can fire. These are choices that an individual should be able to make. Let his consumers support his views or put him out of business. As long as government is not the one doing the discrimination, it should be allowed, no matter how ignorant or offending. As long as Chick-Fil-A doesn't go into a gay nightclub and choke them by shoving sandwiches down their throats, they should have the right to any opinion they please. You have the right to refuse to shop there.

It's hard to believe that the people of our great country have become so divided and many so bitter and full of hatred.

77   Danaseb   2012 Aug 2, 12:06pm

Well people are entitled to their opinions, but if it interferes with others peoples ability to live their lives; people have even more right to hate on them. Boycotts are not the same as legal prohibition, and thats what this business leader was advocating and enacting through funding political will.

Also telling someone what kind of person they are for what they say is not the same level of toe stepping as funding oppressive legislation. No one was trying to file a gag order on him, they just wanted to boycott his business the same way the far right boycotts anything that rubs them the wrong way.

78   pdh   2012 Aug 2, 12:18pm

penises can go in a variety of holes. If you don't understand you need to watch more porn, take more drugs, listen to more shit music, and live more in California. Once you've done that, you might be wise enough to know that buttseks is awesome!
