Follow the money. The gay movement in this country is all about money and politics. Lawmakers will prostitute themselves to the highest bidder. That is why the 'movement' has legs. It's the money. What does legitimizing homosexuals really mean. For one it is legitimizing statutory rape. Gays don't want freedom to practice their perversion they want immunity! So now tell me all about their civil rights. Do they have a civil right to 'marry' an illegal for the purpose of exchanging sodomy for citizenship!
Don't ask don't tell will become tell me for a promotion in business and the military.Dan has cleverly evaded any point that I have made by stating the subject then creating another talking point. Dan do think that marrying an illegal for sodomy in exchange for citizenship is valid? Answer that. Homosexuals desire young naive boys for their pleasure. That is statutory rape . Do you have an argument with that? Pedophilia (with boys) is labeled as a disease instead of labeling it for what it is:a homosexual crime. Would you like your children, if you have any, to be solicited by homosexuals? That is what you are apparently endorsing. Sharia law? That's a laugh! Homosexuals will be the first to go. No, I don't think homosexuals they should be persecuted but neither do I think I should be forced to accept their dogma. MY civil right
Gay "rights" are a distraction. Distraction from real issues and problems this country has.
So I read the article that Catalogued the horrors of Nazi Germany against gays. I wasn't impressed. When a writer has to go back sixty five years to find a good example of homos getting this type of treatment, I'm just "meh" about it. Here's an idea: how about that writer goes to Afghanistan or Iran or even "pacified" Iraq with his sob story of trampled gay rights? Those nations have a rather strict policy of killing homosexuals as a matter of law. That's current! It's happening, now!
What truly makes me chuckle is when the same group of libs who march and kiss for gay rights, cry about Guantanamo, which contains people who would cheerfully murder every gay on the planet!
True liberalism is dead, or just extremely rare. Nowadays they label it libertarianism. Liberals today are characterized less by their thoughtfulness than by their lack of any coherent thought whatsoever.

That's complete and utter bullshit. Just because you have unfounded prejudices against homosexuality does not make it immoral, unethical, or illegal. Two men can consent to have a sexual relationship just as much as a man and a woman can. To assert otherwise is nothing more than small minded bigotry.

All legislation, by definition, is political. Writing laws and defining writes is exactly what politics is.
As for money, you are way off base. The marriage equality movement is about rights. The lack of gay marriage violates the 14th Amendment of the Constitution.
Furthermore, as your comments clearly indicate, the status quo also violates the First Amendment as the opposition to gay marriage is purely religious bullshit. It is un-Constitutional for the state to endorse a religion or religious beliefs or to force those beliefs or conformity to those beliefs on the people.
And if you don't like that, perhaps we should subject you to Sharia Law.
Gay "rights" are a distraction. Distraction from real issues and problems this country has.
Human and civil rights are never a distraction. They are extremely important issues, if not the most important issues a country can ever face.
I would suggest that the gay marriage question is a no-brainer as the opposition has no legal or ethical ground to stand on. Then again, interracial marriages, segregation, and slavery were no-brainers as well, but it took our backwards country 100 to 150 years to solve those problems.
And yes, America is a backwards nation. We are backwards precisely because there is so much opposition to marriage equality and because that opposition has actually slowed the adoption of marriage equality. For us to allow a stupid, small, vocal minority to trample the rights of others is backwards indeed.
I'd like America to stop being a backwards nation and start being a leader of the free world, which is has yet to be.

Yeah, everything that happens before you are born is irrelevant. The Holocaust happened like almost a lifetime ago. Can't we forget about it already?
But if you want to find more recent examples of atrocities committed against homosexuals, just take a look at the Middle East today. And realize that's what the anti-gay movement wants to turn America into.
Speaking of America and atrocities against homosexual men, remember this?
http://www.matthewshepard.org/
The horrific events that took place shortly after midnight on October 7, 1998 would become one of the most notorious anti-gay hate crimes in American history and spawned an activist movement that, more than a decade later, would result in passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, a federal law against bias crimes directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered people. Two men, Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson, abducted Matt and drove him to a remote area east of Laramie, Wyoming. He was tied to a split-rail fence where the two men severely assaulted him with the butt of a pistol. He was beaten and left to die in the cold of the night. Almost 18 hours later, he was found by a bicyclist who initially mistook him for a scarecrow. Matt died on October 12 at 12:53 a.m. at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado with his family by his side.
Anti-gay bigots are fucking assholes and deserve to burn in hell, if only there were such a thing.
Dan6287: need to increase your reading comprehension dude. I already mentioned the middle east in like the next sentence. What I was pointing out was that this was lazy lazy reporting, picking on the biggest bugbear of them all to make a point about society's treatment of homos. The nazis weren't nice to gypsies or Polish either. They were an abortion of a festering gangrenous flesh-eating infection on the Earth. Big effing deal! Lazy! Go write something relevant instead of just regurgitating the tripe that passes for university education.

These were just the first few that came up in my search. Iif you feel so passionate about posting current events affecting the worldwide gay community feel free to post them here.
As for the perceived hypocrisy of liberals decrying human rights abuses in Afghanistan and Iraq yet at the same time decrying the detention of Afghans and Iraqis a Guantanamo - you claim that Guantanamo "contains people who would cheerfully murder every gay on the planet!"
Most prisons even here in the USA contain some people who would cheerfully murder every gay on the planet! Hell, most communities in the USA contain people who would cheerfully murder every gay on the planet if it were possible.
The issue with Guantanamo is that many - not all - of the detainees are there for reasons unknown, for an indeterminate amount of time with no charges leveled, no council, nothing. They may be very bad people OR they may just have been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Without some kind of due process its hard to tell. While in prison these people may be subject to abuse, and are certainly not going to feel any goodwill to the US if they do eventually get out. And what of their families? If taxi driver dad is caught in a sweep and sent away to Gitmo his teenage sons might think to join the group fighting his captors.
THAT is the problem people have with Gitmo. Prove that everyone locked up there deserves to be so, is being treated appropriately (is not being tortured, or otherwise abused) and will be processed accordingly. Do those things and the critics will fall silent.

There's a difference between arguing a point to further a discussion and arguing for the sake of being belligerent. You have yet to grasp this difference. When you do, we can continue this discussion as adults. Until then, please stop polluting this forum with your nonsense.
Ah that's right, I didn't realize that you were moderator! Sorry for polluting your high-brow discussion (Dan8267 writes: "Anti-gay bigots are fucking assholes!") with contrary opinions! I shall cease all such activities directly.
Good day, Sir!
As a moderator, the only thing I don't stand for is trolling. You are free to post any opinion you like. You are also free to post any facts, correct or not, that you like. However, as a commentator, I reserve the right to point out the incorrectness of any wrong facts. Of course, opinions, by definition, cannot be right or wrong.
Due note, however, that there is a difference between expressing an opinion strongly and simply bullshitting. As a moderator, I don't delete anyone's bullshit, but as a poster I will call them on it.
If I were nearly as draconian of a moderator as you think, I would have deleted your postings. I have not deleted yours or anyone else's, ever. Only deliberate trolling or threats against someone would warrant a deletion by my standards. And even trolling required repeated abuse and obviously malevolent intentions for me to take action. And if I ever do delete a post, I will state exactly why it was deleted.
Here's another one: Teenage Pennsylvania kids arrested for drawing chalk pictures on the road.
Not spraypainting somebody's house, not for tagging a bridge or the side of a truck, for drawing chalk figures on the asphalt.
Maybe we need to let go some cops, obviously there is little crime in Doylestown.

They should sue for violations of the First Amendment. You can't make a case for vandalism if it's chalk. Chalk washes away with rain.

Today's laws are largely arbitrary, overly complex, and overly intrusive. One cop could buy lemonade from you kid and the next cop could arrest your kid for selling lemonade.
Over-criminalization is one of the greatest problems in our society today. Every year you probably commit dozens of felonies without your knowledge, violating laws that should not even exist in the first place.
