Speaking at the Sydney Mining Club, Rinehart said her country's mining industry couldn't compete with nations that are willing to pay workers less than $2 a day for their sweat and labor.

Maybe Jabba should mine her own ore. She'll lose weight and can pay herself $2/day.

And now she's back with some more helpful advice. Speaking at the Sydney Mining Club, Rinehart said her country's mining industry couldn't compete with nations that are willing to pay workers less than $2 a day for their sweat and labor. The implicit suggestion: Employers should be free to pay workers whatever they please. This echoes Rinehart's earlier to-do list, in which she urged Aussie lawmakers to cut the minimum wage so that, well, she wouldn't have to spend so much money on things like workers' salaries and benefits.

Actually she stated.. competition from African labor at $2 a day "worries her".
The clip doesnt state she is looking for a wage cut or wages at $2 a day.

Heck ! anyone competing with foreign workers could have said the same,
be they British, German, US or other nations.

Clearly Australia, like other nations, have an economic issue that should be addressed to be competitive.

Ignoring the issue and calling for class warfare isnt a short or long term answer.

"Africans want to work, and its workers are willing to work for less than $2 per day. Such statistics make me worry for this country's future."

SHE is worried that their Austrialian Industries will fail and workers will become obsolete and unemployed.

Sounds familiar..frankly if it about the US industries you wound give a rats ass, and rather see our own mining industry go under.

What is the issue exactly?

If she's so worried about being competitive, why not cut her own salary and benefits? Is that on the table?

And judging by the increase in her wealth, the mines seem to be pretty competitive at current wages...

Learn a skill that can't easily be taught to cheap labor, or else you won't have a job. That is the future of the world.

True, but the purpose of the minimum wage is not to ensure jobs. The purpose of the minimum wage is to prevent corporations from effectively enslaving those who have no bargaining power.

But even if you do not care about the morality of economic slavery, consider this. It is in the best interest of business that there are minimum wages, for otherwise the Tragedy of the Commons takes place. Every business is better off assfucking its employees with slave wages, but every business is far worse off if other business assfuck their employees with slave wages because then no one can afford to buy things and there are not profits for those businesses.

Consider the minimum wage a way of preventing the Tragedy of the Corporations Exploiting the Commons.

They're suddenly more competitive.

All policies require specifics to be decided by government. For example, who decides where the military is deployed, what assets are used, what missions are taken, when are the missions taken. The answer: government.

Of course, if government is utterly incompetent and cannot be trusted with these decisions, then we should disband the armed forces. Do you really want to go there? Surely a government that can't decide on a sensible minimum wage cannot do something way the fuck more complicated like handle the logistics of war.

Yes, we certainly have marxist and pacifistic within our borders!

Your a 2 for 1 special.

Remember, if it weren't for the beautiful 1% Eloi

... we Morlocks would be without a service mission and would probably all starve.

The fact that you use the word pacifist as a bad thing shows how utterly anti-Christian you really are. Jesus was the mother of all pacifists. There are so many contradictions in your philosophies.

Actually, there have to be far more Eloi than Murlocks for the Murlocks to survive. Prey always must have more total biomass than predator. I guess in Rinehart's case that's true.

Well I would take it for granted, that the Morlocks would be cannibals. Eloi meat would never be on our table. A difference from Mr. Wells vision.

15   Dan8267   @   2012 Sep 5, 11:56am

Then what motive would the Morlocks have to feed the Eloi? The Eloi would starve and start fighting over what little resources they had, perhaps even become cannibals themselves. But having no knowledge of how to sustain themselves, the Eloi would go quickly die out.

Come to think of it, things can't end well for the Eloi in any scenario.

Motive? They should be grateful that the Eloi live above as a shining example, and that they get porridge and Morlock stew, down there in their tunnels tending the infrastructure. The Eloi DESERVE their place in the sun. It should be obvious!

Look around we are clearly headed in that direction.
