"If Mr. Assange is extradited to the United States, the consequences will reverberate for years around the world," they wrote. "Mr. Assange is not an American citizen, and none of his actions have taken place on American soil. If the United States can prosecute a journalist in these circumstances, the governments of Russia or China could, by the same logic, demand that foreign reporters anywhere on earth be extradited for violating their laws. The setting of such a precedent should deeply concern everyone, admirers of WikiLeaks or not."

June, when he took sanctuary there to avoid extradition to Sweden. He is wanted in that country to face arrest and questioning over allegations of sexual assault, but has said he thinks he could be transfered to the United States, where he could stand trial for leaking classified information through WikiLeaks.

Oliver Stone's father was Jewish, but he is not entirely pro-Israel, or maybe not at all:

Interviewed by The Sunday Times on July 25, 2010, Stone said: "Hitler did far more damage to the Russians than the Jewish people, 25 or 30 [million killed]." He objected to what he termed "the Jewish domination of the media", appearing to be critical of the coverage of the Holocaust, adding "There's a major lobby in the United States. They are hard workers. They stay on top of every comment, the most powerful lobby in Washington. Israel has fucked up United States foreign policy for years." The remarks were criticized by Jewish groups, including the American Jewish Committee which compared his comments negatively to those of Mel Gibson.

True that far more Russians than Jews died in WWII. And Jews do dominate Hollywood, though I wouldn't say all media. The ADL and AIPAC really are powerful lobbies. So his comments seem at least factual.

Stone called Saudi Arabia a major destabilizer in the Middle East. He also criticized the foreign policy of the United States, saying: "We made a mess out of Iraq, Syria, Libya, but it doesn't matter to the American public. It's okay to wreck the Middle East."

Also all seems true.

In a June 2017 interview with The Nation to promote his documentary on Vladimir Putin, Stone rejected the narrative of the United States' intelligence agencies that Russia sought to influence the 2016 presidential election. Stone accused the CIA, FBI, and NSA of cooking the intelligence. He said: "The influence on the election from the Russians to me is absurd to the naked eye. Israel has far more influence on American elections through AIPAC. Saudi Arabia has influence through money... Sheldon Adelson and the Koch brothers have much more influence on American elections... And the prime minister of Israel comes to our country and addresses Congress to criticize the president's policy in Iran at the time—that's pretty outrageous."[154]

Russia passed a law in 2013 banning “gay propaganda” to minors, which has been criticized as being used for a crackdown on LGBTQ support.[155] In a 2019 interview with Putin, Stone said of the law that "It seems like maybe that's a sensible law."

I think I like the guy.

Wasn't Stalin complicit in genocide by throwing mostly non-Russians against Germany in Stalingrad, for example? Full conscription, mass attacks with insufficient weapons and ammo, backed up by Russian Regulars who would shoot deserters.

Great book: Operation Barbarossa.

Yep. I read a book by a Soviet General that described the effective use of "Penal Battalions." He also mentioned that often the rear gunner in the Sturmovic was a prisoner.
