I thought he would be a formidable (R) candidate for 2016 and wondered WTH Obama was doing appointing him to CIA.

If the admin knew about the affair then that civil appointment was absolutely stellar quasi-dirty bank-shot politics.

Petraeus would be relatively safe inside the Army, but going civil he's more exposed to FBI background checks.

And D/CIA was an 'offer he couldn't refuse' LOL.

Never trust a man who's last name rhymes with "Betray Us".
Because you know he the throws that line in, every time he sings Amadeus in Mirror when he gets out of the shower.

Was planning on stating how fucking absurd this scandal and likewise scandals are and how ridiculous that it is on the news. But been too busy to start a rant on this. Was going to do it this night after work.

83   Bellingham Bill   2012 Nov 12, 7:53am

What scandal? Can't be a scandal if just one person did something wrong.

It's the right wing conservatives who want to get into everyone's bedrooms and sexlives. See the actual impeachment of a recent sitting President for how they operate. P leaving government for failing their moral standards is simply the way they want things to be.

84   zzyzzx   2012 Nov 12, 9:05am

You really don't see a lot of commentary because the guy resigned and now nobody really cares. It's not like Clinton where he lied about it.

86   marcus   2012 Nov 12, 10:23am

He was impeached because of a severely dysfunctional right wing that went after Clinton for anything they could find. (see Ken Star). Originally they wanted him to look in to "Whitewater," then in to the death of Vince Foster. Finally it was cornering Clinton on his embarrassing encounter with Lewinski, and yes, blow jobs, that got Clinton to lie under oath rather than embarrass himself and his family. And there it was, ...finally,....gotcha.

Still, it's the republicans who still look like scumbags, for practicing that kind of politics. Wtf ? Was that payback for Watergate ? Or were they just that pissed off about CLinton's competence ?

This business of republicans doing anything to gain power, or take it away from a Democrat, is not new. Too bad they can't just use truth, and legitimate policies that the middle class could get behind, to gain power, as the system intended.

Perjury was proven? As I recall it was acquittal.

Supreme Court has spent some effort in this area over the years. Example Reagan "I do not recall" and similar evasions and vagueness are not perjury.

Example you ask the average college-kid how many people they've "had sex" with and then try to pin down all the gyrations of what is and isn't, it's a nightmare. A Catholic girl I dated never "had sex" but boy howdy.....

Where was I?

Back to the subject, as xyzzy said, nobody really gives 2 farts about this since he resigned. It will fade into obscurity in a week or three. Remember Lisa Nowak? No, you probably don't remember it unless I say "crazy astronaut diaper lady". This story doesn't have that kind of weirdness to stick in popular culture memory.

But this 'shop is too awesome have to post it again:

About Patreous, I wonder what the line would be on whether this is about Beghazi. That is if people were betting on it, and if they could know.

Notice that he doesn't go away under the cloud of incompetence, it's because he shagged an underling. How convenient. Apparently he wouldn't take the resignation because of a second term option. Time for the Gen to write a book and hit the pundit circuit.

91   MAGA   2012 Nov 13, 6:24am

It's the CIA not TSA. ;-/

92   lostand confused   2012 Nov 13, 7:14am

So now it appears an FBI agent who sent shirtless pics to the woman who received the threats seems to be the catalyst for this being exposed?

That lady seems to have another "close" relationship with a General who calls her sweetheart and exchanged 20-30,000 pages of emails. The plot thickens.

Not even Jerry Springer or Maury can top this story. All parties are married too!

93   Vicente   2012 Nov 13, 8:53pm

Jill Kelly has a twin sister described as "unstable" who lives with her.

Waiting for evil twin angle to surface.

94   lostand confused   2012 Nov 13, 9:33pm

Well, it appears this Jill Kelley set up a bogus cancer charity. This nut job is close to the top Generals and the top guy at the CIA? That and that top General and Petreaus vouched for her twin sister during her divorce, giving written statements about her mothering abilities. Then this General exchanged 20-30,000 pages of emails with Kelley calling her sweetheart etc. I mena you are in Afghanistan leading the war effort an dhave time to exchnage 20-30,000 pages of email with a married woman???

No wonder the war effort is so disastrous-the Generals are busy chasing pussy instead of the enemy.

95   Tenpoundbass   2012 Nov 13, 10:13pm

Here's another thing I never get.
Why is it, that every time a high profile person is caught in a sex scandal,
the media blames his power?

They almost always say things like... "Well people in high positions are narcissistic and are high on Power, they don't believe they'll get caught..."

They said it about Clinton, Edwards, Tiger, and now Betrayus.
When the truth is, all men are dogs. There's plenty of infidelity across all socioeconomic scales.

96   lostand confused   2012 Nov 13, 10:25pm

I think it has to do with the current politically correct belief that women are pure as the driven snow. That no woman can ever do wrong and even if she kills her husband or children-than a man must have driven her to it.

If Tiger Woods was a bus driver, you think that bimbo would have married him? Or all those women slept with him? The same with Edwards , Clinton and Patreaus-these women were willing to do anything-anything-to get to know these people in power. Some were married with kids and that didn't stop them.

But in the modern western world-you can't blame the women. They can't be held responsible for their actions or choices. The only ones who do are the Limbaughs and the Akins who act like neandrathals and this makes men look insane and the feminists continue on with their meme-men bad, womnen good.

97   Bellingham Bill   2012 Nov 14, 12:26am

Two things. One: it was brilliant for Obama to appoint so many Republicans in his admin, since sooner or later one or more of them would fuck up like they always do and he could be all 'hey man, I tried . . .'

This was clearly not the October surprise Cantor was looking for.

98   upisdown   2012 Nov 14, 1:20am

Now it seems as though 20-30,000 emails(email sex?) of the Gen and another Gen Allen, are under scrutiny for improper communications/relations with civilians, while one of those people has an intelligence background and also a security clearance. Those emails will be wisked away because of "an ongoing investigation". Coincidentally, Gen petraus is scheduled to testify about the Benghazi attack on an agency compound. That compound was also later exposed by two republicans in an attenpt to use the incident for some political gain right before the general election. That's a whole lot of emails that just went down the rat-hole of non-existence.

But, the number two guy in the republican party in the House, Eric Cantor, alledgedly knew about the then-secret compound before the election and surprisingly kept his mouth shut about it. Also, since when has an American diplomat been killed while in service to his diplomatic mission in a foreign country, and there's no state-level funeral for him?

To complicate matters even more, a socialite that's involved with the exposing of all this is now trying to claim diplomatic immunity.

A top General and CIA director isn't going to risk his reputation, position, or even his life on some hack author/honey trap. The classsified papers that she took probably were given to her in an effort by Petraus to cover his ass in some things that definitely went wrong. Cue Colin Powell on how to save face and reputation.

Eh? There was a funeral, I recall the President and the Sec. of State were there. Every TV in the SFO SkyClub had it on.

Sure you can. As long as it's reasonable and factual, don't matter if it's PC or not. For instance, in hip hop community, it is a well known fact that certain "women" are just "looking for a sponsor."

101   upisdown   2012 Nov 14, 4:53am

The media knows that the public enjoys their propaganda with a good dose of sexual intrigue heaped on it. Nothing new really.

The story and all of it's sexual overtones is apparently better than exposing what really is the reason for Petreus being shoved out to pasture.

NMA is great. You don't even need to know Chinese to appreciate it.

Jill Kelly could probably walk right in to the part of Cruella DeVille in an off-broadway production.

An interesting detail.

His affair does not matter, but if indeed he used Outlook client to send Gmail, well his incompetence does matter.

My, my. It looks this Ms Kelley tried to use her Petraeus connections to try and get a 80 million dollar kickback.

108   Vicente   2012 Nov 16, 3:49pm

Y'all didn't catch the basic trick they were using to "send" emails.

A shared gmail account, and only composed messages without sending. So each would login and check the drafts folder.

Just found this meme someone made:
