more and more find myself not using pronouns and truncating my senteces. Today's texting / internet / email has made it worse. can brly understnd myslf.

It's like some new bazzaro shorthand for the 21st century.

anyone else notice this - or is it just me?

I got so fed up with bad grammar on TV news that I couldn't watch anymore. Nearly every verb got replaced with a present participle, apparently to convey a sense of immediacy, until there were almost no correct sentences left. At the same time, the plural noun "troop" got re-defined to mean one person in any branch of the military. Worst of all, as George Orwell foresaw, bad grammar and reduced vocabulary resulted in bad reasoning and reduced thought.

I use shortcuts when sending work emails from my crackberry - otherwise, I try to use english so people can understand what I'm saying.

Disagreeing is another story.

I'm only 31, so this is a my gen and younger d/evolution of the english language. I try to force myself to participate, but its easier said than done. Its more natural for me to use proper English (as best I know how). Thnx twitter

Do they still teach kids to write in cursive? If so, why? I can't use it worth a lick and feel no worse off for it.

Language shapes our thinking. Now that we avoid having actual conversations with each other and seek immediacy over effective communication, our language is no longer evolving as it used to but is regressing to pygmy-speak. How do we think this shapes our thinking?
