As a person who grew up in the Bay Area it really irks me that I have seen my generation (Gen X) be priced out of living here. Most of my friends and practically my entire hs graduating class had to move out to the Central Valley or Sacramento area or further to purchase a house and have a family, while their parents stay on in the Bay Area. The ones who have bought here either bought early in their twenties, are living in their parent's house, had major help from family to purchase a house, or are majorly struggling to keep afloat.

If you really want to decode the Californian social value system and really UNDERSTAND why it is the way it is you NEED to look at Feminism. Feminism is overlooked by 'liberal' Californian types as it is one of the basic ASSUMPTIONS by which their society is operated and controlled.

Feminism was created by elites in order to cripple society. It was never a program to liberate anyone. It remains as one of the more compelling programs because 1) it targets half the population 2) it promises 'equality' and fingers men with 'stealing' the rights of women as they have fun all day at the coal mine, the office/bureau, etc. For instance feminism was a tough sell to farmers whose wives observed the hard work they did all day and had no desire to take their positions. Feminism promised these women more freedom, more wealth, more time to ... do what? be with their family? the image was never fully completed and as it evolved over the decades it got more and more absurd, surreal, and exaggerated. Today the birth rate is plummeting, the satisfaction of women is unbearably low, the level of tax revenue is at an all time high(two working 'spouses'). What did Feminism deliver? so far all it delivered on was increasing the anger and confusion levels of western women who now have no idea who their enemy is(they believe it is men- usually the men trying to have a normal relationship with them), and have no idea how to attain happiness(by having a family). Ultimately the program seeks to channel this increasing discontent back into the system by billing men AGAIN for this increasing dissatisfaction. Anyone so foolish to marry one of these harpies learns this lesson on average in 4-7 years when the divorce comes and the woman has all rights to his wealth in court.

The problem with the "Equal Rights Amendment" was it said women (who comprise a majority of voters) could conscript men (a minority of voters) while exempting themselves. With a volunteer military, all voters are exempt from having to fight, although males remain vulnerable to conscription.
