This is at current prices at the various age tiers via Blue Shield's "Silver" ($2000 deductible) plan.

(I could pay another $800 - $1600 per year for the no-deductible "Gold" plan, but that doesn't make much sense if I can stay out of the hospital that year.)

Averages out to $7300 per year, ~$600/mo.

Insurance rates in Japan (10% copay with annual caps) are half that, expect similar rates in e.g. Canada.

Of course, if I limit my income to $25,000/yr, Uncle Sam will pick up all but $88/mo, a pretty good deal. . .
