" California’s Kaiser Permanente canceled 160,000 plans — half of its insurance plans in the state — while Blue Shield of California sent 119,000 notices in mid-September alone."

Last week, Covered California said it had received 95k enrollment "starts" but declined to say how many had completed an application.

Badly written article: What happened is that Kaiser in California cancelled certain plans that had 160,000 subscribers.

The journalist needs a course in basic comprehension and logic.

My guess is that these were the high-risk plans that became unnecessary because Obamacare provides coverage also for pre-existing conditions. Hence no more need for high-risk plans. Now, the plan subscribers need to sign up for Obamacare. And they are taking their time and shopping around, as they should. The article is deeply misleading.

Here's the original article from Kaiser Health News.
The main reason insurers offer [for the cancellations] is that the policies fall short of what the Affordable Care Act requires starting Jan. 1. Most are ending policies sold after the law passed in March 2010. At least a few are cancelling plans sold to people with pre-existing medical conditions.
