Emails tie Christie administration to bridge controversy
http://firstread.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/08/22229091-emails-tie-christie-administration-to-bridge-controversy?lite

"Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee," Christie Deputy Chief of Staff Bridget Anne Kelly wrote to Christie Port Authority aide David Wildstein on Aug. 13, weeks before the lane closures that snarled traffic on the first day of school in New Jersey last fall.

Wildstein replied, "Got it."

First - it would be nice if the media were reporting on these things BEFORE the last election. Doesn't do us much good now when Obama's main domestic program was sold to us with lies.

So you think there was a massive media conspiracy to refrain from reporting on Obama's statement until after the election? But then, somehow, the same media that conspired to keep the truth hidden suddenly blasted it all over the front pages for months?

Hmmm....ask Bgamall to save some of his Thorazine for you.

24   HEY YOU   2014 Jan 8, 3:57pm

Another Republican Executive that doesn't know what's happening right under his nose?

Rhymes with another Republican abject failure on 9/11.

25   edvard2   2014 Jan 9, 12:31am

I guess the sad part about this whole bridge thing is that if it sinks Christie's chance to run for President, then that leaves mostly nutty folks instead. Hence the GOP will get stuck with yet another totally unelectable candidate. I say this as a liberal. Yet I feel that electing someone like Christy would possibly do more good for the country than electing another Democrat. Why? Because if a more moderate Republican were elected then this would have the effect of resetting the GOP and getting them out of the socially conservative funk they've been in for years. Long term that could mean more meaningful debates with more actual, useful legislation.

26   edvard2   2014 Jan 9, 1:19am

Well, I think you need to understand that the South is also changing, perhaps faster than the rest of the country. All of my family still lives there and what's been happening now for the better part of 20 years is that not only has there been a lot of companies moving there, but also people from primarily the Northeast, looking for cheaper housing. I'll also say that as a kid growing up in the South, we were taught in public schools to be accepting of others and that certain things like racism were NOT ok in any way. I think this was hammered home in part due to the history the South has had. So even as a kid, those who were intolerant were typically seen as in the wrong. The South to me as a Southerner is in many ways similar to the overall demographic change sweeping the country where intolerance, ignorance, and so on are increasingly giving way to an increasingly educated public. Those who are intolerant are falling in numbers.

I also don't think the entire GOP demographic is socially conservative and leaning to the far right. Most I believe are more moderate and rational. And so electing a moderate Republican-aka- what used to pass as mainstream Republican 30 years ago- would help to push out the more extreme end of the current GOP. This would be good for us all and more accurately represent what the country's population wants. The sideshow circus of the GOP is coming to an end.

27   mfs.admin   2014 Jan 9, 1:36am

At this point, it all really doesn't matter who did what anymore....

Simply put, if we the people do not eliminate everyone from both parties, we will all be broke and our rights as individuals will be a distant memory. There may be under 10 people in both parties total that have any moral compass and people here are arguing which party is better when the correct answer is neither. That's why the average American citizen is being robbed blind by the corrupt as we speak, because most of us have the word "sucker" written on our foreheads and are too ignorant to understand the game and how it's played. Maybe we all need to lose everything in this country to wake the hell up....

OK, fuckwad, I accept this as your prediction that Christie career will be ruined by this. What happens if he gets the GOP nomination?

I suppose it's possible he could win the nomination; after all, this is the party that ran Sarah Palin for VP. But if he becomes president, then I will have been wrong.

I'm not sure which scares me more - that Christie endangered the public for no other reason than to exact petty revenge, or that you don't see that as wrong.

33   Homeboy   2014 Jan 9, 4:08am

Straw Man says

This means nothing: dems ran a male version of Sarah Palin for VP instead of choosing much more capable candidate from the primaries lineup.

You're kidding, right? Biden ain't that great, but he's fucking Einstein compared to Palin.

Straw Man says

You can't seriously say that a politician who is nominated to run for President by his party had an unsuccessful career.

Oh, I can't? How is being nominated a "successful" political career if you lose the election? How's Ross Perot's political career going these days? But honestly, I doubt Christie would even win the nomination. The other candidates will undoubtedly use this against him to successfully paint him as a thug who has no business holding public office. Candidates of the same party don't have to be nice to each other in the primaries; it's going to be all about winning the nomination.

34   Vicente   2014 Jan 9, 4:22am

Hey I looked at Fox News front page, and clearly this is a big NothingBurger where Aide Nobody went off the reservation. No fact checking or investigative reporting is required, because the Christie PR machine will supply all the news you need.

35   Homeboy   2014 Jan 9, 4:28am

Don't pretend to be another Gary Anderson: Ross Perot is outside of the two-party system we have.

So? The point is, he ran as a presidential candidate. The fact that you ran as a presidential candidate does not mean you had a "successful career". A successful career requires having a JOB, not simply applying for one.

36   anonymous   2014 Jan 9, 4:30am

Biden smarter than Palin, lol. Did one of you dull blades really just suggest that? Too funny. Biden is the scummiest of politicians, and I always thought the dems liked his face in the spotlight because of the sympathy he draws from being a retard

You clearly didn't get what we were saying above. See, we Democrats don't want Christie to get booted out of the running because the way we see it, he's good insurance to hopefully keep anymore conservative nut wings from getting the nomination.

And Obama delayed the individual mandate just a few weeks later - didn't he?

Not really. The individual mandate was only delayed for those that had their existing insurance policy cancelled. That was never one of the proposals the republicans made during the government shutdown. For other individuals the mandate is still in effect with a March 31 2014 deadline to have insurance or pay a penalty on your 2014 taxes.

Lets see, Obama delayed the emloyer mandate a whole year(earlier last year) and delayed the individual mandate for those getting totally screwed by Obamacare a few weeks after the shut down.

But when Republicans requested the individual mandate be delayed like Obama did for the employer mandate - it was considered treasonous and worthy of Obama and the Democrats to shut down the government.

Seriously? You're arguing that Palin is smarter than Biden because someone disagreed with Biden on foreign policy issues? The U.S. hasn't made a good foreign policy call for at least 50 years. Foreign policy is a matter of opinion, not intelligence. Good God - Palin said she was knowledgeable in foreign policy because she could "see Russia from her house". It doesn't get any dumber than that, my friend.

I agree somewhat, but am less optimistic than you. The GOP's devotion to voter suppression and Gerrymandering all but allows the puss-head wing-nuts to choose their voters well into the future. The GOP has chosen this future as their denial of America's unstoppable demographic changes. The GOP will hunker down with enough perpetually re-elected bat-shit crazy cavemen in the south and elsewhere to hamstring federal government. They're happy enough if they retain control of redneck states and gut programs for the under classes and for immigrants, and pass state legislation forcing female circumcision and the pledging of allegiance to jesus in order to get through the doors of a shit-hole school. As long as they can trade guns and snort oxy and praise jesus, keeping DC in limbo is pure gravy.

Here is that HuffPuff link you deleted last night,

All Republicans asked was to dlelay the individual mandate and make Congress abide by Obamacare rules too. That was too much for Obama and he shut down the government.

Republicans were prescient.

"With just hours to go before the government shuts down, the office of House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) confirmed that it will put together a new continuing resolution with amendments attached to it that will delay Obamacare's individual mandate for one year and end the employer healthcare contribution for members of Congress and their staff."

This is unmitigated bullshit. It has already been explained to you that Obama only exempted people whose policies were canceled. The republicans wanted to completely get rid of the mandate. So no, not the same thing at all. And you are completely ignoring the fact that the republicans wanted ACA completely de-funded and THEY were the ones who threatened to shut down the government. The dumb little ploy you're referring to was only after they realized they had lost the battle to get rid of ACA altogether.

From your article:

"When asked by reporters during a Monday press conference whether the House would pass a clean continuing resolution by midnight, Boehner said, "That's not going to happen."

All Boehner had to do was pass a clean funding bill without the attempt to hold ACA hostage, and there would have been no shutdown. Sorry dude, this was 100 PERCENT the republicans' doing, despite your pathetic attempt to rewrite history.

Actually - it is called "negotiating".

The US President is not a king and has to deal with the 2 equal branches of government. If Obama was decent at actual governing (instead of just campaigning) he would have developed some relationships and respect with the other party and would be able to negotiate some of this stuff without the constant drama and deadlines like government funding or raising the debt ceiling.

It is a total failure of Executive leadership that every budget deal goes down to the wire in the first place.

Apparently you are so far in denial that I'm not going to be able to get through to you. The REPUBLICANS are the ones who threatened to shut down the government if they didn't get their way. ACA is law, and it was upheld by the Supreme Court. Republicans don't like it because it taxes the ultra-rich and gives assistance to the poor. Well too fucking bad. The negotiating already took place. Democrats wanted a single-payer option, but negotiated with republicans who didn't want it. The republicans won on that. The republicans wanted Congress to have to buy their insurance on the exchanges. They won on that too. When the republicans controlled Congress, they did a lot of things the democrats didn't like, but nobody threatened to shut down the government. That is NOT how you negotiate. Here's how government works: Congress introduces draft legislation, then they vote on it. If it wins the vote, it becomes law. The minority doesn't have the right to then use threats to try to get the law overturned. That's called "being babies".

Despite all of these lies and political games to keep this turd of a law on the books and the American people in the dark - you really think it is somehow out of bounds for the Republicans to try and protect the MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE from this bit of Liberal incompetence?

And finally, if Harry Reid and the Democrat controlled Senate proposed budgets - Obama wouldn't find himself constantly in these last minute budget deadlines.

But yeah - in liberal bubble land, it is only the Republicans that are at fault.
