I'm opposed to our current high levels of immigration because it creates a large reserve army of labor that depresses wages. Wages build up, not trickle down, so without upward wage pressure for the unskilled, it's likely that workers will continue to be underpaid and overworked.

I agree it's a concern, but what do you think about, for example, the idea that there is a tremendous new glut of labor and money from China and India that have come online like never before. (I picked up the "Age of Oversupply" recently. Seems to be a decent book).

Is it really immigrants that we need to be concerned with? Witness Hazelton: immigrants left town and with them departed a big chunk of their elderly economy.

Documented and undocumented immigrants to America consume in America. They are often youthful, and pay into Social Security and Medicare, etc. Undocumenteds sell food at food trucks to undocumenteds who work at the construction site. Remove them and you may remove the only economic activity in town!

And the best thing is, when they are no longer needed, they simply self-deport! :)

I disagree, because I think you are not being fair to both sides.

I don't think the tax system is fair, and I don't know a single person who thinks that it is. Poor will always want more handouts, and everyone else will always want to pay less in taxes. Romney paying a lower rate than I while complaining about his high taxes is just as bullshit as a renter not paying property taxes while complaining about prop 13. It is what it is.

And it's no secret that politicians are beholden to special interests. And the only special interest that has no voice is the middle class. But I don't think there is much difference between Republicans and Democrats. At the end they all want to take something from us, and the only day they stop taking from us is when we are all dead and no longer care.

I agree. In fact for some reason I am forgetting what I fervently thought about right after the 2012 elections: Either one of two things can be done on forums with right wing posts:

A: try and argue with em', which of course does no good but can provide some entertainement value or...

B: just let them keep on posting that crap.

B is better because its that kind of attitude, rhetoric, and ideaology that cost them the election both in 08' and 12'. That sort of stuff is what turns people's stomachs except for a shrinking minority of the population whom at one point in more recent history were the dominant majority. Blame it on the GOP for grooming their base to act and believe as they do. But basically there's no way I could exert as much energy as some of these guys do with their constant anti-liberal posts. But in reality they're working for us anyway.
