Unless you've intentionally lived your life under a rock, you're probably aware of this race car dude who got pissed at another race car driver and ran out on the track in front of him - and was killed.

Last week it was determined that no criminal charges would be filed against Tony Stewart, the killer driver dude. The interwebs are abuzz with the news that Kevin Ward, Jr tested positive for THC. I find it doubtful that he was stoned at the time (this chemical remains in the blood after the high has subsided and I'm unsure as to whether they tested the amounts and were able to determine his level of "high" (if any) at the time of the accident. But I digress.

I realize that Stewart is an expert driver and might have been able to avoid hitting Ward - but he didn't. And that Stewart should have known to avoid the area due to the caution flag - but he didn't. He could have pulled over and awaited for the track to be cleared, thereby losing the race - but he didn't.

Conversely, Ward could have remained in his car where he surely was afforded more safety surrounded by roll bars - but he didn't. And he could have stayed home that day - but he didn't.

And so on... and so forth. I realize that Ward's family is upset about the perception of his being high (once again, I doubt he was) and that they lost him due to being hit by a professional race car driver, but I'm sure that all the legal disclaimers they sign, along with the nature of the business... well other than bitching, it's doubtful they can do anything more than use the public forum to blame Stewart.

Sometimes, it's better to shut the fuck up about something. For the Ward family, now might just be that time.

The only thing that makes sense is "go really fast in big, hot machine full of explosives, around a track with other big, hot machines full of explosives,GO SPLAT!"

Everybody is to blame, and nobody is to blame. Like, WTF, take up crocheting if you want a safe hobby or profession.

This tragedy just shows the even bigger problem of this invincible impunity that people walk around with.
People with their faces planted on a screen as they walk in front of cars that they expect the driver to have their undivided attention.
People should not be walking where cars travel period. It's probably the biggest safety hazard in America, is our pedestrian trust of the drivers of the cars in traffic. It's your life, the ultimate impetus to make sure you're not run over by a car is YOUR responsibility.
You can defer your safety to road etiquette but that's just silly.

I certainly didn't mean that Tony Stewart was at fault in any way (shape or form...). IMHO, he's a race car driver and his job is to drive around in circles over & over & over. And to avoid collisions with other cars - but a person? The dude should have stayed in his car or gotten to safety in some way, not to challenge another guy in a car going really fucking fast.

Please be careful, possible you'll be hit by lightening. I agree with you.
