Starting January 1, bi-weekly premiums for Wal-Mart's most popular insurance plans will increase 19% to $21.90 for the company's entire U.S. workforce. The company also will stop providing health insurance to part-time employees who work less than 30 hours a week, which will affect approximately 30,000 employees, or 2% of the company's total U.S. workforce. Wal-Mart employees are furious over the changes. "Most of the employees where I work are struggling as it is and to take away more of the very meager benefits we get is atrocious," said one associate who works at the West Point, Mississippi Wal-Mart store....

We didn't know you worked at Walmart?

Good thing he puts in more than 30 hours. Then he would really get pissed.

Absolutely, worthless bastards I never did like them, selling people stuff for unprecedentedly low prices, raising everyone's standard of living, I never did like them.

Just like Sears except cheaper...

As I posted in another thread the Walmart family amassed a fortune equal to the wealth of the bottom 42 percent of Americans combined.
But yeah, we did get a bunch of cheap Chinese shit that nobody alive really needs.

Could I sell you some Walmart cheese to go with that whine?

BTW did they hold a gun to your head to buy their stuff?

They got rich by stealing the food right out of American mouths, money from paychecks, reducing the quality of their products to junk, and ensuring all manufacturing is done by slave labor in dodgy countries. Truly, Sam Walton is a monument of morality!

Well, not me personally. I don't recollect ever setting foot in one. For an American I'm afraid I am a piss poor consumer.

Do you think for yourself or just spew straw man cool aid?

So was Sears of the same ilk? or Montgomery Ward before them? or maybe not quite as bad as they used American slave labor?

11   Shaman   2014 Oct 16, 8:19am

Straw man Koolaide sounds more like your cup of tea. Koch brothers rah rah! You're just like the hordes of ignorant right wing idiots who believe that poor people are stealing their tax money while robber barons like Walton (who are creating these poor people) are capitalist saints. Meanwhile, Walmart brands are built specifically substandard by each manufacturer to meet the "low price" demands made by the company. Sure you're still getting that gallon jar of dill pickles for $10, but it's grown on chemical infested Chinese land, processed in dirty factories, and canned by political prisoners.

Behind every great fortune is a great crime. The most successful such criminals just rewrite the laws to suit their brand of villainy.

Most of the stuff Walmart sells is name brand that cost more elsewhere. Colgate toothpaste as an eg. I read 30% of all shampoo sold in the US is sold by Walmart. They manage to sell things cheap and still make a profit due to efficiency and sheer volume.
Why should anyone care how much Walmart makes, as long as you save money by shopping there. Last year I even got my iphone 5s from Walmart and saved a bundle.

You missed the most important part about shopping there... The entertainment value of watching the true Shoppers of Walmart!

Yup, a huge sea of jiggling, wobbly, shivering cellulide. Maybe that's why I feel a little sea sick when I'm there.

Really? What great crime was involved in Apple's Fortune? or Sam Walton himself, who died before out-sourcing?

The most powerful competitive edge Walmart had used to be their computerized inventory system, which was far more advanced than any of their brick-and-motar competitors. It literally could detect local consumer demand and stock the particular local store differently on the truck's route. Nowadays, Amazon might have an even more efficient inventory system; we shall see. Retailers live and die by the efficiency of their inventory system. I saw how disorganized Woolworth and Kmart shelves became, and shorted their stocks many years ago, with big pay-off's each time.

Woolworth? The Brit stores aka Woolies. USA has some of those stores?
Just look at the pathetic state of the once mighty Sears and JC Penney. Walmart did something right, which is why they became so incredibly successful. What happens in the future with the rapid change in technology is anyones guess. What I do know for sure is the consumer will benefit. :)

I shop at a local (3 generations of local ownership) market and am a member of a local natural food co-op. I hit one of the local farmers markets weekly.
My money stays here instead of heading off to Bentonville or Seattle.
More expensive? It depends on your values.

F$#k Walmart and the Waltons and their anti-human strategy

Trader Joes, PetCo, Home Depot, Sears/Kmart, Target, Walgreens, etc etc announced the same thing over 6 months ago, they are just joining the club.

Another thing that Walton did that was smart was to make his vendors track and stock the store's inventory as it was a 2 fer for Walmart

As if a discount retailer has any choice...

And where do you think everything you buy comes from? Your money just ends up somewhere else. Where do you think the 3rd generation owners vacation? Somewhere else with your money.
We live in the same planet, same hemisphere, same country. What difference does it make. Do you realize the car you drive, even if it's American, has most of it's parts made somewhere else?
I shop where I get the best deal, in terms of price, quality etc. Literally 10 minutes ago I ordered a cell phone car vent mount from Ebay, because I knew I would get the best deal from there.

Well, where I do my actual living is in a small community. What you idealize is exactly what has destroyed small communities all across America. What do you think small towns look like when everyone shops online or drives until they can find a Costco.
I think it is wise to support the merchants and farmers and ranchers of my community with my custom.
(Locally I am a customer not a "consumer".)

That said if I found myself "needing" a "cell phone car vent mount" for some unfathomable reason, I suppose I would have to order it from eBay.

$4.50 on Ebay.
You are right about the internet impacting small towns, but I don't think they will be destroyed. Who buys eggs and tomatoes from Amazon?
