Now you could make the case that the Second Amendment only applies to "well-regulated militias", not the individual, but our society has adopted this amendment to apply to all individuals. That said, the amendment says "the right of the people to keep and bear arms". Notice the word "arms", not "guns".

The term arms includes all weapons, not just guns. So, if we actually have a Second Amendment right, then that right includes having nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons as well as tanks, attack helicopters, land mines, and ICBMs. The Second Amendment states that there shall be no infringement on the right to bear arms, and that clearly includes what kind of arms you want. Of course, this amendment was passed in a time when the cutting edge military technology was the musket.

If on the other hand, you say that the Second Amendment should only protect the use of some arms, then why the hell draw that line along guns or certain classes of guns? Why not say that firearms aren't included and that you only have the right to bear melee weapons and crossbows? The drawing of a line around firearms or even certain classes of firearms in arbitrary and clearly not what the Second Amendment says.

This is why the Second Amendment should be wholesale repeal and the country should vote on what weapons citizens and the government are respectively allowed to use and under what circumstances. Of course, this will never happen because the last thing the government wants is to let the people decide how the government can behave. That would be crazy talk like "government of the people, for the people, by the people". Only extremist terrorists like the founding fathers talk like that.
