UEFI: Uninterruptible Enema Forced by Intel

Fuck you UEFI, GIVE ME BACK MY BIOS

I have been working with computers since 1982 (thirty years so far), so please understand my frustration when I say FUCK YOU UEFI, GIVE ME BACK MY BIOS

When I rebooted, I reversed all of my UEFI changes, tried to boot, but then was confronted by a strange issue: the system could no longer see the drive at all.

Fuck me, right? Well, it gets better.

When I first went into UEFI, I was able to see a variety of numbered boot options, from primary drive to CD-ROM to network boot. These are no longer available. Nothing, nada, no drop-downs to provide me access to these options.

Plus, when I try to force the system to boot off of the primary drive, it either returns to the UEFI (not even trying to access the drive) or comes up with a "drive not found" error (the classic white text on black background).

UEFI Sucks, Suggests a Growing Consensus

Some prominent operating system developers already complain about what they perceive to be an anticompetitive measure. Intel, which spearheads UEFI advocacy, needs Windows right now, especially because the best-selling devices, which run Linux, are based on non-x86 chipsets

UEFI SecureBoot ends commodity computing

SecureBoot turns your generic IBM-compatible PC hardware into a Microsoft Windows Computer, locked to a single version and fully prepared for planned obsolescence.

It's a sad day when Freedom gets exchanged for a little bit of temporary safety.. if SecureBoot will even give you that, which remains yet to be seen.

If You Use Microsoft Windows, the NSA Can Brick Your Computer Hardware Remotely

With UEFI it has been demonstrated that motherboards can be bricked [1, 2, 3], irrespective of the platform (provided there is remote access to it). Imagine what can happen at times of war. If the NSA can take over Windows, which it can, it can brick any computer with such motherboards. This is serious because it means that not even reinstalling the operating system or swapping operating systems would help.

Intel is devaluing its own hardware. Hardware which can run Linux is more valuable.

The market may fix this.

Hopefully, but I doubt it. The hardware market isn't very free. There are very few players and the few big ones have too much power.
