Though Silicon Valley has well-known problems with diversity in its work force, people here pride themselves on a kind of militant open-mindedness. It is the kind of place that will severely punish any deviations from accepted schools of thought — see how Brendan Eich, the former chief executive of Mozilla, was run out of his job after it became public that he had donated to a campaign opposed to gay marriage.

lol, silicon valley is insanely diverse, if you count indians, chinese, and yes, white people.

it's probably the most meritocratic place on earth, where engineering talent is all that counts. tech companies will hire anything that moves, as long as it has mad coding skillz.

but it's also true that silicon valley culture tolerates no dissent from the agenda whatsoever. brendan eich's mistake was thinking that he had the right to his own opinions. not around here.

That's true anywhere.
I'm proof of that. Everyone where I work is well aware that I must know my shit when it comes to what I do around there.
I wouldn't even last a mediocre worker there otherwise. I do not fit the mold for the cluture they are trying to create.
