We already have life settlements. Sounds similar to that, Dan.

I felt this way the first time I clicked on patnet.

Is there a support group? I seriously wonder about myself.

Tontines? I had never heard of the concept before. But basically all group retirement schemes like Social Security are Tontines: Those who survive get the benefits of those who do not.

Dan, put Tontines in the headline. Are we not trying to be informative here?

Thanks for posting that, Dan. I had not heard of the tontine before either.

Not really. When someone in the social security system dies, your check wouldn't go up as you get the dead person's share of social security. Also, I'm assuming that when a Tontine is created, each person in a group contributed the same amount to be a member. So, they all start of with the same monthly/yearly payout. As people in your Tontine die, the remaining members would get a raise. A Tontine would be a winner takes all system of social security.

I'd be cool with it. Group us by years of birth. So everyone born in your year is in the same Tontine. Take all the contributions and average them for an equal monthly payout among the members. As people die off, your check goes up. I think it would be kind of fun. And If I die, I doubt I'd care one way or the other. And if it turns out that I actually do care after I'm dead, the complaint system appears to suck, so my Tontine survivors won't ever have to hear about my complaints.

No one knows the word, so it would add no value.

Neither did I, but I've been binge watching The Simpsons and I'm up to season 7. The word was featured in an episode.

By the way, it takes forever to binge watch The Simpsons. Still worth it. I missed a few seasons while in college. Surprisingly, I still remembered some of the oldest episodes.
