This edit is meant to isolate Mark Blyth's outlook as the two professors each have observations that vary greatly and tend to distract from one another. Blyth's talks capture my interest and so he gets the benefit of the spotlight with this cut.

Yep. It's long overdue.

We certainly don't need to be greatly empowering a future rival by outsourcing high tech manufacturing there.

China is smart. They had the death penalty for centuries for exporting technology like silk and porcelain production.

America is stupid. We allow corporate executives to get bonuses for exporting technology.

I'm still amazed that there isn't more of a push back against economists on trade.
Even now, we keep being told at nauseam "trade is good"....
Well, 35 yrs ago, before globalization and "free-trade" we didn't have to sacrifice half the population, and we didn't multiply national debt by 2 every 8 yrs. Yes maybe goods were a more expensive. Big deal.

The only country in the world where you can claim the same tax deduction for moving to the next county, state, or to the far side of the world.

I don't know of anyone that pays any mind to any mainstream economists. Maybe if only to poke fun at them.

I think most people feel that weathermen are better at their profession

Well, authorities, mainstream media etc... all base their 'consensus' views and accompanying pontifications on the opinion of "economists".
Maybe self-referential but...
