"He claimed his bag and took the gun from baggage and went into the bathroom to load it. Came out shooting people in baggage claim. There were 13 total shot, 5 dead, 8 transported to hospital."

The TSA tweeted that there was still an active shooter as of 2:33 p.m., and advised passengers at the airport to "shelter in place." The Broward Sheriff's office tweeted that there is still an "active search" underway amid "unconfirmed reports of additional shots fired on airport property."

Guns travel in locked containers in the baggage hold. There is a special check-in procedure. So no, security doesn't allow passenger to have a gun on a flight.
