And yet Paul Ryan walked straight into the Barzini trap that president Trump set for him. By insisting that the voters desired "Repeal and Replace" when in fact all anybody wanted was "Repeal, full stop," Ryan's inner wonk superseded his duties as the speaker of the House to ensure the votes were there for the "Replace" part of the equation. That they weren't should be the end of his speakership.

Apparently, Ryan had been listening to the die-hard never-Trumpers too much, and actually thought he could skate on his opposition to the insurgent outsider, whose entire campaign was based on his contempt for the Permanent Bipartisan Fusion Party and apparatchiks like Ryan. Once the bright shiny penny of young GOP congressmen, Ryan blotted his copybook badly in his disappointing vice-presidential debate performance against a gibbering Joe Biden. He then played coy after House conservatives finally managed to sack former speaker John Boehner, but eventually accepted the proffered crown. During the election, he fought Trump every step of the way and lied about it.

So heading into round one of the health-care debate, there was no love lost between Trump and Ryan. Despite the fact that the House had already voted some 60 times to repeal Obamacare -- which is all GOP voters had been asking for -- Ryan got it into his head that what was really needed was a Republican version of Obamacare: "a better way." And so he set about crafting the latest version of GOP me-tooism, the American Health Care Act, which was ignominiously yanked this afternoon when it was clear there were not enough votes to pass it.

Trump has negotiated a gazillion deals with actual business people. Ryan is a paid for puppet by the corporate interests as was Obama and Hilalry-different ball game Ryan-LOL!

Trump will MAGA any day now. Just needs to clear the decks first. It's all going according to plan. Trump's smiling at this very moment.

I see an entire government trying to do its most desperate fantasyland legislation for as long as they can pin it on a Trump and is enabled.

If Trump's numbers move farther south, the people will have spoken, and his luke warm support by the Repubs will be gone.

Ryan needed Trump as much as Trump needed Ryan, but I think that dynamic is fast shifting to Trump needing Ryan more. There is a breaking point there that leads to a few things, but one, is impeachment.

Business deals and legislation aren't exactly synonyms in mechanics. Trump's too busy watching TV anyway.

A straight up repeal was never in the cards. Too many people like the ACA now.

Not his real intention. MAGA is/was just another smokescreen in the actual quest for SCOTUS picks.

Above all else, trump wants to be liked and admired, and will do whatever it takes to get it.
Don't be surprised if he winds up a middle of the road president, or even biased left at the end of it.
Wherever the position is that reaps him the largest likability rating is where he will wind up.
It will probably be some kind of middle coalition of left/right pols.

That might be true for the man behind Trump (Mercer), but I don't think Trump is even a social conservative. IMO, Trump promised to pick conservative judges just to get elected. Nobody knows if Trump even wanted to be President. He may have run for attention and to build his brand. Once he started and realized he could win, he didn't want to lose. If he did want to be Pres, nobody knows why.

I do think that Trump wants to take down Ryan. I just don't think he has a particular strategic reason. He just doesn't like Ryan and wants to win.

LOL -yeah right, a man who negotiated with cities, countries, federal governments to get permits and build things around the world is just some deranged dummy who does not know what he is doing.

But a person who was a community organizer, half term senator is a master of 8th dimensional chess. Lefties, lefties-nothing changes with them.

You guys aren't seeing the forest for the trees. Trump isn't making strategy. That's Bannon's job, and he's a wizard. Trump is playing a role, exactly like he did on The Apprentice. Or did you forget that he has a star on the Hollywood Walk?

Ryan has been a giant thorn in Bannon's side, he when he couldn't get Michigan voters to drop his ass for a challenger in the election, Bannon's came at him sideways with a honey trap. Craft this huge healthcare bill! The President will support it no matter what! Meanwhile most of Congress was repulsed by the inevitable pile of elitist crap that came off Ryan's desk.
EXACTLY AS THE KINGMAKER INTENDED!
Bannon is the chess master here. He's a Harvard educated, proficient in the worlds of high finance, Hollywood, storycrafting, and politics. He's the smartest mother fucker in DC by a long shot, and he's writing strategy for a populist revolution.
Trump is just his stalking horse.

45 to proceed to his next Golf appointment.
He can get on the course & we pay for the trip.
When he has time to work,he can fail to deliver
on another promise.

These guys you speak of, Trump voters?
+68,844,000 Democratic & 140,000,000 non-voters didn't vote for Trump,
Bannon needs to take a refresher course in math.
He's got a lot of work to convince these to participate in
RIGHT WING NUTTERY.

So, what's wrong with winning??

I'd rather have the country win than Trump win his petty grudge match with Ryan. But, whatever. We have what we have.

What's the solution?

What do you think would be something good for the country.
Then tell us if you think that Trump would do it.

If he would do what you think is good for the country, why don't you admit that you voted 'for Trump' instead of 'against Hillary.' If he wouldn't do what is good for the country, why are you grousing about Ryan and blaming him for Trump's failures?
